Here at RK Motors Charlotte we have a tradition of offering you the finest muscle cars in the world, but some of these cars are so rare that they’re almost impossible to find. Take Ford’s legendary Mustang Boss 429 for instance. The last numbers matching, real deal Boss 429 that we came across was a 1970 Grabber Green car which sold over TWO years ago for a breathtaking $265K! So, it’s only natural that, when we found this rare, documented Candyapple Red 1969 Boss 429 at a very reasonable price we simply couldn’t wait to get it up on our website! Fresh from a complete frame-off restoration and packing a properly rebuilt and restored 429 V8, this ’69 Boss 429 gives you the best of both worlds: owning a rare, investment grade muscle car at a price that allows you to drive it a bit and enjoy it!

After a nine day stint at Kar Kraft to complete its NASCAR inspired 429 conversion, KK #1541 was shipped to Quitman Motor Company in Quitman, Mississippi. It would spend less than two weeks on the showroom floor before a lucky owner signed the papers and unleashed 429 cubic inches of Ford fury on the dry Mississippi streets. In March of 2003, after almost 35 years of accident free driving and excellent maintenance this killer Mustang was purchased by a new owner and subjected to a highly detailed frame off restoration. Completed in early 2011, and with only 19 miles of road time since being rolled out of the paint booth, Boss 429 #1541 is an amazing piece of Mustang legend.
During the cars extensive restoration, all of its original panels were stripped to bare metal and thoroughly worked to ensure a super smooth surface with laser straight lines. Once the body was fully prepped and displayed excellent fit and finish, a correct coat of Candyapple Red basecoat/clearcoat was expertly applied from tip to tail, and buffed to the fantastic shine you see here. At the front of the car, an original and fully functional hood scoop sits above a stainless trimmed grille which hangs a pristine red, white and blue Mustang emblem inside of bold fog lights. At the sides of that grille, deep set headlights cap aggressive, ridged fenders; and below the grille a show-worthy chrome bumper sits above a functional Trans am style spoiler. Behind that spoiler, the cars smooth profile trades traditional Mustang ornamentation and striping for the subdued look of simple “BOSS 429” fender decals and fresh-out-of-the-box Mustang B-pillar emblems. At the sides of those emblems, like-new glass is framed by bright stainless trim, and correct color-keyed race mirrors which reflect on brand new door handles and awesome rear fender air scoops. At the back of those fenders, a pristine “Mustang” trunk script is centered above factory fresh segmented tail lights and a highly detailed fuel cap; and a second showroom fresh chrome bumper hangs above chrome trimmed reverse lights and inset aluminized exhaust turn downs.
Now that you’ve waded through all the flowery prose about paint and stainless trim, it’s time to get down to business. Lift the glossy red hood and you’ll find a correct 429 cubic inch warranty replacement V8 that’s been completely rebuilt, bored .030 over and produces somewhere north of 500 horsepower. At the top of the engine bay, the cars original widened shock tower brace hovers over a correct blue air cleaner which feeds a correct Holley C9AZ-9510-S 4-barrel carburetor. Below that carburetor, original (to the block) heads hold new stainless valves and springs below polished Boss 429 valve covers and chrome Ford Racing breather caps. Below those heads, a NOS Boss T crank spins balanced billet Crower rods and forged Ross Racing stock compression pistons; and a .580 lift cam pushes traditional solid lifters. Fire is provided by a correct Autolite coil which sends fire to an Accel points distributor and Moroso Ultra Race wires. And cooling is provided by the cars original oil cooler and radiator which is complete with fresh Autolite hoses and correct tower clamps. Aesthetically, the exceptionally detailed engine bay appears very close to original and featuring an even coat of satin black paint under correct Ford decals; and everything, from the silver accessory brackets and silver brake booster to the correct cast iron exhaust manifolds is absolutely spotless.
Take one look under this Mustang and you’ll find exceptionally clean and expertly detailed original floors which are every bit as nice as the cars body. Behind the big 429, the cars original close ratio Top Loader 4-speed is still hooked to its original flywheel and bell housing. At the back of that transmission, an original driveshaft spins an original Ford 9 inch Traction-Lok rear end that is complete with asphalt shredding 3.90 gears and an original metal maintenance tag. At the front of the car, a rebuilt double A-arm coil spring suspension holds a rebuilt factory optioned power steering system between aftermarket spindles which hang SSBC vented rotors and SSBC calipers. Despite searching far and wide for factory replacement spindles and brakes during the cars restoration, the owner had to ‘settle’ for nice SSBC units. If you’re the kind of purist who must have everything exact, the cars original spindles ARE available from the consigner. At the back of the car, a rebuilt leaf spring suspension holds correct drum brakes at the edges of a factory equipped rear sway bar and a new stainless fuel tank. And in the middle of the car, subframe connectors seamlessly parallel a factory replacement exhaust system that’s complete with an H-pipe, correct resonators and a correct transversely mounted muffler. Power is put to the pavement by great looking 15 inch chrome Magnum 500 wheels that are wrapped in fresh 215/60 front and 255/60 rear BF Goodrich Radial T/As.
Take a look inside this Boss 429 and you’ll find a completely restored correct Clarion Knit vinyl interior with hi-back bucket seats, fully rebuilt gauges and bright re-chromed knobs. The rebuilt and re-covered black Clarion knit buckets are in spectacular shape both front and back, and there is no evidence of sun damage or rot on the fresh dual cowl dash pad. Inside that dash, excellent looking wood applique trims clear gauges, a functioning passenger’s side clock and a correct Philco AM radio; and below the dash, a full length center console holds a traditional chrome Hurst shifter in front of a chrome lighter and deep console. At the sides of the car, sculpted door panels are decorated with more wood trim and re-chromed knobs, and at the bottom of the car new carpet is shows no signs of fad or wear at all. In front of the driver, the cars original factory optioned Rim Blow deluxe steering wheel has been restored to perfectly match the wood trim on the dash and console, and features a the same red, white and blue Mustang logo found at the ends of the car. Behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk features a correct mat below a correct, rear mounted reproduction Autolite battery.
The sale of this awesome 1969 Mustang includes the cars original KK sticker, (The one currently affixed to the driver’s door is a duplicate) a complete Marti Report, two reproduction window stickers, pictures of the engine rebuild and a stack of miscellaneous information about the 1969 Boss 429.
There are a few cars that have the kind of attitude and presence of this 1969 Boss 429. Documented, fully sorted and one of the most sinister Mustangs we’ve ever had, it drives and sounds every bit as good as it looks. If you’ve always wanted to own the ultimate Ford muscle car, now’s your chance!
