The 1968 GTX is one of our favorite cars, and when the top goes down, the paint is bright red, and the engine is a big block, it’s one of the best combinations of power and style we can imagine, and this 100% matching-numbers specimen is available for what a lot of folks would call a bargain price. Better yet, it has factory power windows! Interested? If you’re in the market for a spectacular Mopar, you should be.
This is an extremely rare (less than 1000 made) 1968 GTX Convertible, with 99% original or NOS components, and no excuses. If you want a high #2 car to drive and show, we guarantee that you will never regret making the purchase on this one.
To that end, we’ve just finished polishing and waxing the beautiful bright red (PP1) paint using a three stage process, and detailed the entire car from top to bottom. It looks like a million bucks. This is not a Dairy Queen driver. Take this one to the Mopar Nationals and you will have a crowd around it. It’s that nice.
With just over 69,000 original miles, this GTX convertible has received a complete ground-up restoration, using original and NOS parts, and has been rebuilt to stock specifications. No questionable modifications, no goofy wheels and tires, no over-powered modern stereo system, just a car that will be highly competitive in virtually any show you attend.

The body and PP1 bright red paint are better than factory and this GTX simply glows. Clearly this was an extremely well-maintained, clean original car before the restoration, and the workmanship was first rate. Panel gaps are better than the workers at Hamtramck ever managed (no offense, guys, I know you were pressed for time!), and the alignment from panel to panel emphasizes those sharp creases and character lines that run from nose to tail. The paint was laid down over some very flat panels, with no ripples or waves, and then it was all color sanded and buffed to the kind of shine that only a bright red car can deliver.
All glass is original to the car and in excellent condition. The chrome and stainless steel trim are stunning. The grill, headlight bezels and tail panel have been completely restored, and, as those of you in the hobby know, these are extremely expensive to restore.
The engine is the correct, original 440 Super Commando, 4-barrel engine, rated at 375 HP. It’s mated to the correct, original A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic Transmission. The original 8 3/4" Sure Grip axle, with a 3.23 gear, finishes off the completely original drive-train. The engine bay is highly detailed and correct in every way, from the correct turquoise paint on the block to the authentic air cleaner up top. The carb is rebuilt, the hoses and clamps are fresh reproductions, and even the ballast resistor on the firewall is an exact reproduction that will pass muster with any judge. All the coatings and finishes are in first-rate condition even though the car was restored a few years ago, indicating that it has been extremely well maintained ever since. Heck, even the exhaust manifolds are still clean and rust-free. And, as with all RK Motors Mopars, there’s a correct red cap reproduction battery in the tray, the finishing touch to a high-quality engine bay.
Mechanically, the braking system, front suspension, fuel delivery system, and all lines are new and function flawlessly. The exhaust system is 100% stock; no loud muscle car here. The floors are excellent with factory-style finishes instead of over-restored 2-stage paint that judges can spot before they even crawl under there. It rolls on 15-inch Magnums with 235/70/15 redline radials for modern handling with a vintage look.
The black bucket seat, automatic console shift interior has been fully restored, and is like new. The original four-piece console top has been restored and fits beautifully. The original steering wheel was restored and looks like a million bucks. The dash pad is original and that’s astounding, considering that this is a ragtop. The instrument and gauges have been restored and they all operate properly. Find something on the AM radio, drop the top, power down the windows, and hit the road.
Overhead, there’s a recent white vinyl convertible top that works properly and fits beautifully, and it is all hidden by a snug-fitting black boot when it’s stowed. The trunk features a recent mat and correct jack, matching spare wheel and tire, and handle.
The best thing about this GTX is the way it drives. This GTX convertible is 100% stock, right down to the exhaust. Mechanically, everything is brand new and functions properly. The car tracks straight down the road, brakes well, handles beautifully, and is a true joy to drive.
In summary, this is a rare, investment grade Mopar that will leave even the pickiest collector satisfied. Drive it, show it, and enjoy it! This GTX will leave you with a huge smile on your face every time you turn the key. Call now!
