Wow, what a pretty car! The world needs more Corvettes that aren’t resale red or black, and this ‘67 Sting Ray is absolutely heartbreaking in its code 984 yellow with a code 455 white on black interior. Add in the fact that it’s a numbers-matching 327/300 4-speed car with fully functional A/C, and it makes for one incredibly desirable package. If I could pick just one car out of our mind-boggling inventory to make my own, this may very well be the one. No, I’m not kidding.

After 5 years of production, the 1967 Sting Ray was probably the cleanest and most refined Corvette of the 60s, though changes over the ‘66s were modest. Five smaller front fender vents replaced the three larger ones, and flat-finish rockers gave it a lower, less chunky appearance. There was a new single backup light mounted above the license plate, unique to the ‘67s. The previous models’ old-fashioned wheel covers gave way to slotted six-inch wide Rally wheels with chrome beauty rings and lug nuts concealed behind small chrome caps. Interior alterations were likewise subtle and included revised upholstery, with the handbrake moved from under the dash to between the seats.

To someone who actually enjoys driving their cars as well as showing them, this is what might be considered a perfect piece. It’s been restored, but it’s also been lovingly driven and enjoyed since then. There aren’t many things that are worse for a car than sitting unused in storage, and this car hasn’t suffered that fate. Instead, it has been properly exercised to keep it in top mechanical condition and someone took extremely good care of the cosmetics while doing it. The high-quality paint, which was applied several years ago, looks fresh and flawless, and the interior could have been installed last week it’s so nice.

Without a doubt, 1963 to 1967 were high-watermark years for the Corvette. Engine performance soared with fuel injection, tri-power, or mondo four-barrel induction, and “porcupine-head” big-block designs. Chassis development kept pace as Corvettes took to racetracks around the world. Perhaps even more important in ensuring the C2’s legacy is the now iconic Brock/Shinoda/Mitchell-penned Sting Ray bodywork – a shape that imprinted indelibly on many young Baby Boomers who are now looking to repurchase their youth. There’s no better specimen than this one to feed your youthful memories of these cars.

It’s not hard to see why this car was driven regularly. Ask someone with an L89 big-block car how often he drives it. Better yet, ask him why he DOESN’T drive it. He’ll probably tell you some nonsense about how it’s too valuable to drive, but what he’s really saying is that he’s sick of sitting in a sweltering hot car that fouls plugs when it idles. This little yellow ‘Vette has exactly none of those problems. It’s not made of unobtainium, doesn’t cost a decade’s worth of paychecks to buy, and it doesn’t have a high-strung engine with a giant cam and 12:1 compression. Instead it’s a very reasonably priced Sting Ray with a dead-nuts reliable 327 that happily burbles along in traffic on pump gas. The factory air-conditioning blows ice cold on the hottest days. For driving ease, it’s got power steering and brakes, even power windows. And did I mention that even with “only” 300 horsepower, it’s still scary fast? Seriously, if this were my car, I’d struggle to find a reason not to drive it every single day.

We know how important authenticity is to Corvette values, and this car has all the important pieces intact. Of course, the entire drive train is numbers matching with no stories. It also has the correct alternator and Holley carburetor, both of which are somewhat uncommon on cars that are driven – usually they get generic auto parts store replacements and nobody ever notices or cares. The interior is authentic in color and material and matches the body tag. All the body panels are original to the car, and it’s sporting 15×6 Rallye wheels with a recent set of 205/75/15 Coker Classic Red Line tires.

To be honest, it really wouldn’t take much to make this car an incredible Bloomington Gold show winner. Then again, if you did that, you’d forget just how amazing it sounds in 2nd gear at 4000 RPM.

There’s no question that ‘67 Sting Rays are blue-chip investments today. You probably can’t go wrong with any of them, and with that in mind, why not get one you can drive and enjoy while it appreciates? Why not get one chock-full of desirable options that doesn’t cost a fortune and doesn’t look like everyone else’s? Why not buy this one before I have to take out a third mortgage on my house to buy it myself?
