In July of last year we sold our National Award Winning Hugger Orange Z/28 for $95K and this LeMans Blue dual quad cross ram show stopper for $90K. Take a close look at the body of this striking ’69 Camaro and you’ll find that it is completely accurate to how it rolled out of GM’s Norwood, Ohio assembly plant back in October of 1968. The contoured panels are straight and clean from any angle and good, even gaps suggest that the body shop took its time re-assembling the car and making sure everything was as close to perfect as possible. The metallic GM code 57 Fathom Green paint is deep and glossy, displaying a finish that has been carefully wet sanded and buffed to a show worthy shine. And the bright white rally stripes, which were expertly stenciled and painted during the restoration, are as straight and crisp as the day they rolled out of the paint booth. Many collectors think Hugger Orange and white stripes is the quintessential ’69 Camaro color combination; but when you see this Z/28 in person, I think you’ll agree that nothing comes close to a well done Fathom Green car!

The overall look of this 1969 Camaro is beyond factory fresh; and thanks to an astute attention to detail, it has enough eyeball appeal to make people stop and take notice anywhere it goes. At the front of the car, a traditional silver grille hangs a coveted red and white “Z/28” emblem between pristine headlights and a body matched front bumper. Below that grille, clear marker lights hang front and center above an option D80 front spoiler; and above that grille, a “Camaro by Chevrolet” header emblem perfectly complements white inlayed “302” emblems which are affixed to the cowl induction hood. At the top of the car, like-new glass, which displays a vintage 1969 North Carolina inspection sticker, is bordered by fresh stainless trim and complemented by body-matched drip moldings. And at the sides of the car, traditional ’69 Camaro fender brows ride between chrome door handles, chrome trimmed marker lights, stamped rear fender louvers, chrome “Camaro” scripts, and red and white “Z/28” emblems. At the back of the car, ’69 Camaro exclusive tail lights hold fresh lenses at the sides of a prominent “Z/28” emblem; and a show worthy chrome bumper, which sports optional chrome bumper guards, hangs above correct, unpolished stainless tail pipes.

Hoist the fully functional ZL2 cowl induction hood and you’ll find the original 302 cubic inch SCCA spec small block V8 which is branded with a correct 3932386 casting number, a September (I) 18th (18) of 1968 (68) casting date, a correct V0920DZ engine code and a correct 19N515385 partial VIN. Significantly underrated at 290 horsepower and 290 lb./ft. of torque, this hot small block utilizes a forged steel crank, a solid lifter ‘Duntov’ camshaft, high performance moly rings, hardened pushrods and double hump heads with stiffer valve springs to turn 11:1 compression into roughly 376 horsepower, and serve as the poster child for a chapter of Chevy performance that is STILL going strong today! At the top of that engine, a chrome and satin black single snorkel air cleaner funnels wind into a correct Holley 4-barrel carburetor which is bolted to a correct Winter aluminum intake and equipped with a correct green throttle spring. Behind that carburetor, a correct points distributor sends fire through fresh AC Delco Premium plug wires; and at the sides of that carburetor, correct finned aluminum valve covers still wear classic Corvette cross flags. Exhaust is handled by a handsome set of ceramic coated long tube Hooker headers, and cooling is provided by a correct radiator which sends water past a correct shroud through reproduction hoses and correct tower clamps. Chevy Orange is the order of the day when you’re V8 engines in early Chevrolets, and this 302s thick and glossy paint contrasts well to a completely restored satin black engine bay which is fully detailed with correct decals, a reproduction Delco Energizer battery, fresh hood insulation and even a functional courtesy lamp.

The high-winding small block engine is backed by the original Muncie M21 4-speed close ratio manual transmission that’s branded with a correct 3925660 casting number, a correct 19N515385 partial VIN, and a P9P10 date stamp which decodes as: Muncie (P) built September (P) 10th (10) of 1969 (9). Power flows from that M21 transmission to a correct 12 bolt rear end, which has been completely rebuilt to factory specifications, and a fully restored Z/28 specific heavy duty suspension which includes: a correct fast-ratio power steering box, tuned coil springs, correct reproduction leaf springs, fresh shocks and completely rebuilt front power disc and rear drum brakes. Like its engine bay, this Camaro’s chassis has been restored to the highest standards and presents well in every respect with clean satin black floors, which appear to be original, contrasting well to detailing such as completely stainless hardware, a fresh fuel tank and straight stainless brake and fuel lines. At the center of the car, there’s a modern mandrel bent exhaust system which breathes through an H-pipe crossover and dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers. And at the corners of the car, correct Chevy rally wheels with correct stainless center caps and trim rings wear correctly-sized E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GT bias-ply tires.

One of the coolest aspects of this ’69 Z/28 is the fact that it still sports a correct GM code 722 Medium Green interior instead of the everyday black that most Camaro restorers seem to be obsessed with. The car’s firm green seats are in fantastic shape and combine with an optional Z87 deluxe interior package, which includes green molded door panels, wood grain dash applique and bright pedal trim, to elevate this car’s cockpit to a whole new level. At the front of the car, a straight and pliable dash hangs beautifully restored gauges, an electric clock and controls for the cars heater above a correct AM radio. Below the dash an option D55 center console props option U17 four pack gauges in front of a completely chrome Hurst short throw shifter which is anchored by a great looking wood trimmed shift plate. And below that console, correct green carpet is bordered by chrome Fisher Body sill plates and protected by color-keyed rubber floor mats. Above the seats, a tight green headliner, which retains all of its color, stretches around a functional, chrome trimmed dome light. And in front of the driver, a great looking option N34 rally wheel wraps a nice rosewood rim around satin aluminum spokes and a red, white and blue Chevy horn button. Naturally, the cars fully restored trunk is just as well done as its interior and features a new mat, a correct jack and a full-size spare tire under correct decals and option ZJ9 auxiliary lighting.
