Two cars defined the newfound freedom of the 1950s: the Chevrolet Corvette and the Ford Thunderbird. Eventually, Chevrolet took their Corvette to the race track while Ford continued to turn their Thunderbird into the ultimate boulevard car. Now, here we are sixty years later with Corvettes that are regarded as some of the best curve carvers in the world and Thunderbirds, like this 12,654 mile stunner, which are still turning heads on every Main Street in America. If you were looking at a brand new Thunderbird in 1955, but couldn’t swing it; and looked again in 2002 but the timing just wasn’t right, 2012 is your year! That’s right; we have a pristine 2005 50th Anniversary Thunderbird that’s so nice it could’ve rolled right out of the showroom yesterday. Christened by the factory as number 96 of only 1500 50th Anniversary Thunderbirds produced, it’s decked in exclusive Cashmere paint and an exclusive tri-tone leather interior. If you’ve always wanted to cruise the streets in style AND enjoy a level of luxury and dependability that can only be found in a showroom fresh modern car, this slick Thunderbird is exactly what you’ve been looking for!

The Thunderbird came to life in 1954 as a sensational 1955 production car which fired imaginations and became an instant classic. In 1999, Ford decided it would honor the original car by building a new model that would turn just as many heads; and this generation, affectionately dubbed the ‘retrobird’, was rolling down the production line within two years. To be honest, it’s pretty difficult to describe a car like this pristine T-bird. You kinda just want to say “imagine what it would be like to find one that hasn’t been driven” because that’s how nice the car really is. It was obviously pampered and exceptionally well cared for as its 50th Anniversary exclusive Cashmere paint looks just as good as it did when the car rolled out of a Ford showroom. And from its excellent shine to its dent and chip-free composite panels it’s probably one of the nicest 2005 Thunderbirds on the planet.

The J Mays’ designed body looks fantastic from any angle and is probably one of the most enduring ‘retro’ designs ever created. At the front of the car, a 50th Anniversary exclusive body-matched grille hangs bright and clear driving lights below a teal inlayed Thunderbird emblem and clear combination headlights and turn signals. Behind those headlights, a composite hood centers a traditional, recessed Thunderbird scoop in front of a chip-free factory windshield which is trimmed in stylish, showroom fresh chrome. At the top of that chrome trim, a Cashmere hardtop with traditional Thunderbird porthole windows latches down over a Medium Light Stone cloth convertible top to perfectly mimic Fords original 1955 dual roof system. At the sides of the car, chrome 50th Anniversary emblems sit inside of re-imagined fender lines which lead the eye past body matched mirrors to rear mounted “Thunderbird” scripts. And at the back of the car, a contoured center high mount stop lamp sits above a second teal inlayed emblem, clear combination tail lights, a composite rear bumper with a chrome trimmed tag recess and great looking stainless exhaust tips.

When Ford introduced the eleventh generation Thunderbird, it incarnated a car that is faithful to the original concept in every way. Power for this 2005 ‘bird comes from a 3.9 liter 32 valve DOHC V8 which was developed by former Ford subsidiary Jaguar and code named the AJ35. The Ford specific AJ35, which was manufactured here in America, utilizes a two-state variable valve timing system, fracture-split forged powder metal connecting rods, a special one-piece cast camshaft and reinforced plastic intake manifold to create 280 horsepower and 286 lb./ft. of torque. Envisioned more as a comfortable cruiser than a flat-out sports car, the eleventh generation Thunderbird never pretended to be a Corvette or Porsche competitor. That said; 0-60 still comes in at a very respectable seven seconds flat, and the cars silky smooth engine delivers enough grunt to provide fun and responsive driving characteristics. Aesthetically, the entire engine is hidden under an attractive plastic shroud which trades a teal inlayed Thunderbird logo and a chrome “V8” emblem for a traditional view of working bits. However, you can still plainly see how well maintained everything is, from the cars sparkling clean inner fenders, to its non-yellowed master cylinder. Turn the key and the engine lights off instantly, humming with restrained power and a barely audible whisper from the tailpipes.

In the late 90s and early 00s Ford developed one global rear wheel drive platform, codenamed DEW, which was to underpin everything from select Jaguars to the fifth generation Mustang. Those competent roots supply this awesome Thunderbird with a sophisticated independent front and rear Macpherson strut suspension which mixes aluminum control arms with a host of other weight saving techniques to create a smooth ride and composed road manners. The result is a design which possesses a relaxed sportiness and features an excellent combination of comfort and handling prowess. Behind the engine, a 5-speed automatic transmission sends power to a fresh 8 inch Ford rear end with sporty 3.58 gears. And at the corners of the car, four wheel disc brakes, which are aided by a standard antilock system and standard traction control, ride behind high class 17 inch machine finished wheels which spin body-matched Thunderbird center caps inside of 235/50 Michelin Pilot radials. Throw your favorite road at this T-bird, and it’ll chew it up just fine while returning you home refreshed and ready for your next adventure.

Ford began the 21st century by producing some of the more impressive and detail oriented interior designs to ever hit the market, and the 50th Anniversary exclusive tri-tone cockpit in this pristine Thunderbird is one of their best designs. The driver and passenger are treated with heated, full-power Cashmere leather seats which have been color-matched to the exterior paint and feature embossed 50th Anniversary headrest logos. Below the seats, day-one fresh carpet is protected by thick floor mats and bordered by cool Thunderbird branded sill plates. And at the sides of the seats, winged black, white and Cashmere door panels hold great looking metal trim above controls for both the power windows and power door locks. At the front of the car, a highly detailed dash props Turquoise tipped needles in front of satin finished and chrome trimmed gauges; and a 6 disc in-dash CD changer rides next to attractive metal trim and a glove box mounted commemorative plaque. Below the dash, a great looking console holds a dual zone climate control system and a Cashmere topped shift knob in front of a leather stitched console and a sculpted waterfall back panel. In front of the driver a Cashmere topped Thunderbird steering wheel holds a pristine teal inlayed emblem; and behind the cockpit a fully finished trunk features enough room for a spare tire and luggage for a weekend getaway.

Included with this sale is the cars original owner’s manual, a high quality car cover and factory hardtop holder and car.

If there was one phrase to describe this 2005 50th Anniversary Thunderbird, it would be ‘luxury sport’. I know it sounds a little cliché, but it’s true. Like their predecessors, these cars have built a legacy of cruising, seeing and being seen, showing up in style and looking fantastic. Just imagine sitting down in the comfy leather seat, firing up the throaty V8 engine, cranking up the stereo as loud as you like and chasing the sun down your favorite two lane road. It doesn’t get much better than that!
