In the Chevelle world, low (and somewhat hazy) production figures have pushed LS5 and LS6 cars into the collector limelight for years. Sure they’re fun to drive but, with their six-figure prices, really enjoying one can be a dangerous proposition. Thankfully, Chevelle fans wised up and starting building killer LS6 tributes like the slick 1970 model. It offers the best of both worlds with the look, sound, and feel of those iconic street brawlers at a price even the most frugal muscle car fan could agree with.

The beneficiary of no-expense-spare restoration, this car presents as new from all angles. Thanks to a life in California, the car sports all original sheet metal with the exception of a new hood. Dressed in a rich coat of black paint with white stripes and a black vinyl top, the car achieves the sinister look these Chevelles are known for. Finished in show quality trim with factory Soft-Ray glass and clean stainless all around, this car is sure to dominate the local shows.

Lift the hood to admire a well dressed 454ci V8 built to LS6 specs with a few bonuses. The chrome air cleaner assembly sports a 454ci/450hp decal, concealing a single Holley Performance four-barrel carburetor. Below, a polished Winters aluminum intake manifold with a matching heat shield sits between cast factory heads topped by chrome valve covers. The front of the engine turns an alternator and power steering pump with the water pump pairs with a single fan and an OEM-spec radiator the keep the bay cool. A Delco-Remy distributor sends fire through MSD wires while spent gases are expelled through headers that exhale through a dual exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers.

Behind that big block, a Muncie M20 4-speed manual makes quick work of shifts, spinning power back to a stout 12-bolt rear with 4.10 posi. The suspension remains in stock form with a double A-arm front and the factory four-bar setup out back. When the roads curve, power steering pairs with beefy front and rear sway bars and power brakes that clamp down on discs up front and drums out back. The vintage setup rides on a set of 14-inch Super Sport wheels wrapped in 245/60R14 BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.

Open those long doors and a black vinyl interior comes into full view, matching the body color. The optional Strato-Buckets look great and are surprisingly firm to sit in, surrounded by fresh black door panels and a taut black headliner. From the command post, a three-spoke sport wheel offers control over the power steering system through a factory tilt column while a clean factory dash displays a tachometer, speedometer and clock all within an easy viewing distance. Entertainment is provided by an original Delco AM radio while, behind the rear seat, the trunk maintains factory standards.

These cars practically defined the muscle car era and, because of it, demand remains constant. Every time we get a solid A-body for under $75k, they’re gone by the following week. This one barely made it through our photo shoot before being claimed by a new owner. If you’re in the market for a Chevelle of your own, stay tuned to http://rkmotorscharlotte.com.
