What happens when you take one of the best 500 horsepower, 4-speed drivetrains ever created, bolt it into a first-rate restoration and top it with one of the fiercest color combinations ever mixed? You get this show stopping 1970 Chevelle LS6 Super Sport tribute! With a freshly stout 454, a rugged Muncie transmission and a super slick black and white color combination, this incredible Chevelle provides you with the exclusive opportunity to own a car that looks, drives and draws a summer show crowd just as well as any numbers matching LS6 car for HALF the price. Want some turnkey muscle that’ll melt your winter blues into bright white tire smoke? This freshly restored Chevelle is just what the doctor ordered!

Looking mean and sounding positively evil, this killer big block A-body rolled off GM’s Atlanta, Georgia assembly line during the fourth week of January, 1970 to begin life as a simple V8 Malibu sport coupe. For years the car would soldier on with a traditional black vinyl interior and a not-so-appealing coat of Classic White exterior paint. But then, just as fast as it rolled out of the showroom, a new owner decided to spice things up by commissioning a frame-off transformation into a top-notch LS6 tribute. Once the car’s body was arrow-straight, a slick coat of Tuxedo Black paint was layered under Classic White rally stripes and the mirror-like shine you see in our photos. And upon completion, this reborn muscle car was driven roughly 1,300 miles before ending up in our RK Motors Charlotte showroom where the stares haven’t stopped and the jaws continue to drop!

Arguably the most popular year for the Chevelle line, 1970 models feature dual headlights, curvaceous quarters, and a tidy greenhouse that almost gives the car a fastback appearance. At the front of this sinister black pavement pounder you’ll find a familiar Chevy crossbar grille which hangs a fresh and prominent “SS” emblem between a small “CHEVELLE” script and four chrome-seated halogen headlights. Below that grille, a new front bumper is absent of any dimples and dings; and above that grille, a functional and correct cowl induction hood props satin stainless lanyards in front of great looking “COWL INDUCTION” lettering. Behind that hood, well-maintained stainless trim, correct hide-a-way windshield wipers and pristine chrome drip rails border new glass and an equally fresh black vinyl top. At the base of that top, new red and white inlayed “SS454” badges combine with straight stainless wheel well trim, traditional chrome door handles and a set of flashy chrome mirrors to add nice visual details to the car’s liquid smooth body. And at the back of that body, a second chrome bumper hangs a familiar black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lights, a fresh “Chevelle by Chevrolet” decklid emblem and spotless stainless exhaust tips that ensure this Chevelle is both seen and heard.

Although the 1970 Chevelle Super Sport’s LS6 Turbo Fire V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it likely punched the dyno at well north of 500. And naturally, as a ‘to the decals’ accurate tribute, this coupe’s ferocious big block both looks good enough to fool all but the most enlightened classic car fans, and performs well enough to scare the hell out of anyone cocky enough to bury its gas pedal. Give the lanyards a solid pull and you’ll find a fully functional cowl induction system that’s cleanly integrated into a completely finished satin black hood. At the center of that cowl induction system a correctly decaled, single snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen into a Holley four barrel carburetor which sits on a correct Winter aluminum intake. At the back of the intake, a modern MSD points distributor sends spark through AC Delco Packard TV R Suppression wires which snake around a fresh set of mirror-like valve covers and correct reproduction exhaust manifolds. At the front of the engine, new V-belts spin a fresh alternator and a correct Frigidaire AC compressor behind a correct fan and correct fan shroud. And at the front of the car, pliable rubber hoses channel water to and from the radiator with the help of old school tower clamps. Aesthetically, from its fresh reproduction Delco Energizer battery and new brake booster to its clean Harrison AC equipment and highly accurate decals, this Chevelle’s engine bay is nicer than anything that left GM’s factories. And I’m willing to bet it would take the average muscle car connoisseur quite a bit of time to realize that this car’s Chevy Orange 454 wasn’t bolted in on the assembly line over 40 years ago.

Take a look under this tough Chevy cruiser and you’ll find a solid chassis and smooth floorpans that, like the car’s exterior panels and LS6 engine, have been restored to the absolute highest standards. A top notch Muncie M20 4-speed transmission sends power to an era correct 12 bolt Posi-Traction rear end that spins around highway friendly 3.31 gears. Married to that virtually indestructible drivetrain is a factory correct suspension that was fully rebuilt during the car’s restoration and equipped with factory power steering, power front discs brakes and correct power rear drums. Exhaust is handled by a welded, aluminized true dual system which runs from the car’s correct gray manifolds to great sounding Flowmaster dual chamber mufflers, correct rear-mounted resonators and traditional stainless tips. Fresh fuel lines send aged and perfected dinosaurs from a new stainless tank to the aforementioned Holley carburetor while new stainless brake lines carry silicone enhanced fluid from the aforementioned brake booster to all four corners of the car. And connecting this awesome Chevelle to the pavement is a set of chrome 15 inch Super Sport wheels which spin 235/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/As at the front of the car and 275/60 BF Goodrich Radial T/As at the back of the car.

Inside this great looking bowtie brute you’ll find a fully restored black vinyl interior that’s 100% clean and ready to go! During the car’s extensive restoration all the cockpit’s weathered and worn panels were completely replaced with new or rebuilt pieces. Like-new black bucket seats provide a uniform color scheme against the body’s glossy exterior paint and, along with slick new door panels, feature show worthy stainless trim and factory fresh chrome handles. Overhead, factory correct seat belts are tucked into their clips below a tight-fitting headliner. And in the center of the car, a pristine black console props a chrome Hurst shifter and white cue ball knob above attractive satin-finished trim. At the front of the car, a straight black dash hangs a new black instrument panel and crystal clear gauges above an aftermarket Sony tape deck and controls for factory heat and air conditioning. In front of the driver, a rebuilt steering column holds an excellent looking reproduction GM rally wheel above standard issue stainless-trimmed foot pedals. And behind the cockpit, a fully restored trunk features a Sony 10 disc CD changer, a new houndstooth mat, and a correct jack and spare tire.

The sale of this classy Chevelle Super Sport includes an original owner’s manual and a couple of product guides for the car’s modern sound system.

Documented, numbers matching Chevelle Super Sport LS6s are excellent collector cars. But why pay upwards of $125K for ‘man cave’ decoration when you can own the road in this fire-breathing LS6 tribute for half the price? It looks just as good, features the same first-rate restoration, and with its highly detailed big block, has the same killer street credentials as any original top dog 454 car. Over the past five years, RK Motors Charlotte has retailed more 1970 big block Chevelles than any company in the world; and when we say run, don’t walk to pick up the phone on this one, we say it with good authority. If you’re in the market for an awesome SS454 to throw your weight around with, this is your car!
