Not only because they’re fast and soft-spoken, but also because they represent the ingenuity of putting big horsepower in anonymous and sometimes unpopular packages. It’s a side of our personality that, given the pages of polished cars on our website, you probably wouldn’t expect to see. And I know what you’re thinking… You doubt my sincerity about introducing a genuine factory sleeper. But alas, after you take just one look at this stealthy 1970½ Ford Falcon, you’ll quell your convictions. A true factory muscle car, and one of only 90 produced, this sedan’s original 429 Super Cobra Jet V8, correct Cruise-O-Matic transmission and factory 4.30 gears ensure it will handily dispose of any obnoxious show boater who cares to pull up at the stoplight. If you’re in the market for a monochromatic, relaxed and unpretentious classic that’s stacked with a top option drivetrain and super clean looks, this awesome Ford is your next car!

According to the Deluxe Marti Auto Works Report that’s included with the sale of this unassuming trophy winner, it was assembled on February 11th of 1970 in Lorain, Ohio with the following door data and options:

Not surprisingly, this buff Falcon flew out of Ford’s Lorain assembly plant at the height of the great American performance wars. After spending a short time as ‘basic’ showroom candy at Norris Ford in Baltimore, Maryland, it began a long life of solid maintenance and back road workout routines. And today, covered in a fresh coat of correct Wimbledon White paint, it sits as the beneficiary of a thorough frame-up restoration that was conducted on solid, original bones. Pull the car out into the harsh winter sun and you’ll find professional paintwork that shows very well from every possible angle. Underneath that paint, each of the body’s panels is Kansas-flat which, given the size and shape of those panels, says a lot about the integrity of their platform. And the car’s fit and finish is well above anything the factory offered, featuring even gaps and tight closing hinges all the way around.

Complementing this Ford’s blizzard of white paint is a tasteful array of trim pieces that fool most bystanders into thinking they’re looking at another run-of-the-mill grocery getter. Up front, prominent chrome-trimmed headlights and a wide, silver-trimmed grille combine with an angled chrome bumper and a sporty black spoiler to provide a tailored, classic look. Top dead center on the hood you’ll find a small, “Cobra JET” branded shaker which is the car’s only esoteric nod to enthusiasts. Sprinkled down the fuselage you’ll find stainless wheel lips, big chrome mirrors, traditional door handles, “Falcon” quarter scripts and optional body side moldings. At the top of the car, like-new glass sits inside bright stainless borders and body-matched, Falcon-specific window frames. And at the back of the car, a standard white valence hangs a bright “FORD” script between showroom fresh tail lights and a show worthy chrome bumper. Clean, simple and to the point, this car proves there really is elegance in simplicity.

Lift this Falcon’s “FORD” branded hood and you’ll find an original D0VE-A 429 Super Cobra Jet V8 which wears a correct partial VIN under a fresh cosmetic restoration that provides a brilliant, show-worthy appearance. While Dearborn brass rated these big engines at 370 horses for the sake of appeasing whiny insurance agents, they probably had a hard time keeping a straight face. That’s because real world numbers were closer to 460 horsepower, allowing this sizeable car sub 13-second quarter mile passes with some basic shade tree tuning. At full throttle, the flapper valve opens, drawing cool air through a correctly decaled ram air induction system into a large Holley four-barrel carburetor. Below that carburetor, correct D0OE-R heads prop finned aluminum valve covers next to an original cast iron intake which centers a traditional points distributor between High Temp Static Suppression cables. The smooth mill breathes through cast iron manifolds which exhale into a true dual exhaust system. And all the while a correctly decaled radiator cycles water through reproduction Autolite hoses and a correct assortment of clamps. As you can see, the car’s spotless engine bay has been properly sprayed in a smooth coat of satin black paint. All its correct ancillary components, from fresh decals and an Autolite voltage regulator to a correct smog pump and a reproduction Autolite Sta-Ful battery, are present and accounted for. And the road-ready big block is fast, potent and runs every bit as good as its brilliant Ford Blue paint suggests!

Take a peek under this Ford and you’ll find a freshened and exceptionally clean chassis that’s punctuated by factory oversprayed floors and a traditional black suspension. In the center of those floors a rugged C6 Cruise-O-Matic, which wears a 1970-exclusive PJC-A tag, proves just as effective as ever at slinging gears and scorching stoplights. That transmission channels power down the driveshaft to a correct Detroit Locker differential that’s stuffed with Drag Pack spec 4.30 gears. And the torque finally meets the pavement through a familiar set of chrome Magnum 500 wheels which wear modern 245/60 front and 275/60 rear BF Goodrich Radial T/As. The car’s suspension remains in stock form with factory control arms up front and parallel leaf springs out back. Spent gases are whisked through aluminized, true dual pipes which employ an H-pipe crossover and great sounding dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers. As mentioned before, there’s a rebuilt power steering system that makes turning easy and parking a cinch. And braking is an equally smooth process thanks to rebuilt manual drums that occupy all four wheel hubs.

Between the car’s sizeable doors, a correct blue interior offers the one thing many basic muscle cars didn’t – comfort. While the bench seats may not look like the lap of luxury at first, a brief stint behind the car’s wheel reveals just how comfortable they really are. Fresh blue carpet, which is protected by “Falcon” branded floor mats, covers rock solid floors while an equally nice headliner lines the long, slopped roof. The dash is stock, but a correct factory tachometer and three mechanical accessory gauges make it look more modern than other cars of the day. In front of the driver, a factory steering wheel combines with chrome accessory knobs and ornate blue door panels to provide a fresh and appealing driving environment. And behind the passengers, you’ll find a nicely restored trunk that features a correct mat, a correct jack, a fifth Magnum 500 wheel and a fifth BF Goodrich Radial T/A.

Through the years, this rare Ford certainly earned its fair share of trophies. And while those trophies are NOT included with our sale, here’s a list of the car’s biggest accolades:
