Back in 2002, Ford ran a commercial with then-president Bill Ford Jr. asking the age-old question: if you could have one car for the rest of your life, what would it be? Naturally, Bill chose a Mustang with a “throaty V8”. Given his name and position, that was probably a pretty easy wish to grant, but it certainly isn’t so easy for the rest of us. That said; if you’ve been searching high and low for some affordable Mustang muscle with V8 power and plenty of options, this ‘69 Mach 1 may be the perfect answer. Frame-up restored to great condition, the car features a healthy 390 cubic inch V8, a C6 automatic transmission, factory power steering, power front disc brakes and modern air conditioning. Forget show queen – this is driver-level comfort wrapped in a timeless vintage shell!

With most muscle cars, there’s usually a single element that catches your eye long before anything else. But with this Mustang, EVERY piece works together to create a virtual symphony of automobilia. With a solid fastback body that’s been thoroughly massaged and reworked, this is the kind of classic that would turn heads in primer; and what better way to ensure sore neck muscles than covering it in smooth Candyapple paint? That paint coats fit and finish which puts factory-original fodder to shame. That fit and finish is augmented by slick satin surfaces, which recreate traditional Mach 1 markings. And to ensure this pony stands out from the herd, everything was buffed to a show-stopping shine!

For 1967, Ford rolled out a bigger, more muscular pony car, and the 1968 and ‘69 model years saw that design subtly refined. The front end was cleaned up thanks to a deletion of horizontal grille bars. That brightwork was replaced with a single band of trim surrounding the grille opening which, on this coupe, also houses driving lights. Above that grille, a factory hood features stainless lanyards and a small, silver-detailed scoop. Along the car’s profile, clear marker lights parallel dent-free stainless rocker trim. At the doors, body-matched sport mirrors complement traditional quarter scoops and highly detailed B-pillar emblems. Below the roofline, show-quality stainless and chrome edge flaw-free glasswork and matte-finished window louvers. And when you follow the fastback rearward, a large spoiler dumps into triple-segment taillights, a pony-branded fuel filler and a broad ”MUSTANG” script that’s affixed opposite quad-outlet exhaust tips.

Fortunately, this classic is a lot more than just a pretty body. Under the car’s sculpted hood you’ll find a big, 390 cubic inch FE V8 that’s been cleaned, detailed and completely rebuilt to factory specifications. As one of the hottest Mustang mills ever created, this highly regarded block cranks out a conservatively rated 320 horsepower and runs every bit as good as its brilliant Ford Blue paint suggests. At the top of the smooth engine, a reliable Holley carburetor rides under a correct shaker that funnels wind through a Ford Blue base. Below that carburetor, chrome, stamped steel valve covers sit at the sides of a traditional points distributor that shoots spark through fresh Autolite Radio Resistance plug wires. Below those wires, proven, cast iron heads combine with fully restored exhaust manifolds to send spent gases into high performance, true-dual tail pipes. And in front of those manifolds, a beefy radiator circulates water through Autolite hoses and traditional screw clamps. As you can see, this Ford’s impressive engine bay has been carefully sprayed in a smooth coat of Satin Black paint. All the motor’s ancillary components, from its fresh brake booster and Autolite Sta-Ful battery to its Sanden AC compressor and fresh stainless fuel lines, are present and accounted for. And this awesome Mustang, which is every bit as fast and potent as it was 45 years ago, is reliable and ready to hit the street!

Take a look at our professional, high resolution photos and you’ll see that the bottom of this fully sorted pony is no stranger to the occasional rain event. Behind the car’s first-class Ford block, a tough C6 3-speed drives a durable Ford 9-inch that’s equipped with solid, road-ready gears. Holding that versatile drivetrain off the ground is a lucid factory suspension which, at some point, has been rebuilt with OEM-grade equipment. Above that suspension, coated floorpans appear solid and show absolutely no signs of severe rust or weathering. At the ends of that floor, factory power steering combines with power front disc and rear drum brakes to make turning, rolling and stopping an absolute cinch. Inside those brakes, free-breathing, true-dual pipes shuttle spent gases from the aforementioned manifolds to powerful, dual-chamber mufflers. And at the sides of that exhaust, attractive Magnum 500s spin 235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.

Inside this Ford, a comfortable Black interior should make any Mustang fan feel right at home. Everything from the floor mats to the shoulder belts looks new, and hi-back buckets provide plenty of support for spirited driving. From the captain’s chair, a familiar Mustang dash features a nice set of factory gauges which keeps tabs on fuel level, speed, revs and temperature, while a Rim Blow steering wheel connects the driver to the road. At the center of the cockpit, a correct Philco radio hangs over an ornate chrome shifter and small aftermarket console. At the sides of the cabin, crack-free door panels feature an attractive mix of stainless and wood applique. And behind the passengers, a restored trunk features a fresh mat and space saver spare tire.

Whether you’re a diehard Ford fan or a new enthusiast looking to break into the collector car hobby, this Mustang is an excellent fit. With FE power and timeless styling, you’ll turn plenty of heads without sacrificing comforts and conveniences like air conditioning, power steering, and power disc brakes.
