At RK Motors Charlotte we sell more first generation Camaros than anyone on the planet. And while we certainly throw a few stunning pro-tourers into the mix, the vast majority of those F1 sales are immaculately restored, numbers matching show queens which have the solid investment potential to match their storied pedigree. That’s because we’ve worked hard to become your number one source for everything Chevrolet. And for those of you who keep calling us to ask if we have a LeMans Blue ’69 Z/28, we can finally “yes we do” for the whole five days until this car sells. Featuring an authentic DZ 302 V8, a tough Muncie 4-speed transmission and a 100% correct color combination, this factory-spec Camaro tops a completely authentic driving experience with enough visual polish to start a one car parade. If you’re ready for a show worthy F1 that can be driven without fear, or banked for future financial gains, opportunity knocks!

As prospective buyers of true investment grade muscle cars know, one of the biggest concerns with early GM metal is authentication. Fortunately Camaro codes have remained pretty straightforward throughout the years and one quick look at this Z/28’s factory-stamped credentials confirms the accuracy of its restoration.

One of the first ’69 Z/28s assembled at GM’s storied Norwood, Ohio manufacturing facility, this highly desirable F1 shows all the obvious signs of skilled workmanship from an expert body shop. Yes, that is a slick coat of correct GM code 71 LeMans Blue on its super straight body panels; but unlike the car’s original single-stage pigment, this modern urethane frames every stylish crease in a wet-look shine. Naturally that basecoat is topped with painted Dover White rally stripes, as is the fashion these days, and everything is buried under a thick clearcoat shell which makes waxing a snap and admiring a pleasure. And speaking of admiring, take one close look at our high resolution photos and it becomes very evident great attention was paid to ensuring this car’s fit and finish is first class. Step inside our showroom and open doors and decks which are bolted to an arrow-straight body that exhibits better-than-factory solidity. And drive to this weekend’s show in one razor-sharp classic that’ll draw a huge crowd thanks to top-level detail work.

There’s no question the first generation Camaro is one of the best-looking pony cars of all time, and that’s only reinforced by the fact that Chevrolet fans recently voted the ’69 Z/28 the best car of the brand’s first 100 years! At the front of this old school pavement pounder a black, stainless-trimmed grille hangs a showroom fresh “Z/28” emblem between bright halogen headlights and a new chrome bumper. Below that bumper, clear parking lights are centered above a familiar Camaro D80 chin spoiler. And above that grille a traditional ZL2 cowl induction hood anchors bright “302” scripts between a fresh “Camaro by Chevrolet” header panel emblem and satin-finished windshield wipers arms. Behind those wipers bright, dent-free stainless trim, which was likely bought new during the recent restoration, combines with pristine chrome drip rails to frame the car’s clean greenhouse glass. Below that hood standard stainless rocker moldings combine with straight stainless wheel well trim, correct “Camaro” scripts, familiar fender louvers and a chrome driver’s mirror to add just the right amount of flash to the sculpted blue profile. And at the back of the car, a correct 1968 D80 decklid spoiler rides above crystal clear segmented tail lights, a centered “Z/28” emblem and another new chrome bumper.

Pop this awesome pony car’s hood and you’ll find an original 302 cubic inch, VIN verified V8 which wears a correct 3932386 casting number and a Flint Michigan (V) produced, Camaro Z/28-exclusive small block (DZ) assembled on the eighteenth (18) day of November (11) 1968 assembly stamp. Conservatively rated at 290 horsepower, this high performance powerplant utilizes rectangular port heads, a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods, four-bolt mains and forged aluminum pistons create an SCCA worthy 11 to 1 compression ratio and roughly 370 real world horsepower! At the top of the hot engine a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner funnels wind into a large 4-barrel carburetor that’s juiced by fresh stainless fuel lines. Under that carburetor a familiar Winter intake rides between correct double hump heads that hang bright, finned Corvette valve covers over fully restored exhaust manifolds and correct heat shields. At the back of those heads, a traditional points distributor shoots fire through fresh AC Delco-Packard TV R Suppression wires. Aesthetically, the car’s clean engine compartment is top notch in every way with a GM satin black frame contrasting a vivid Chevrolet Orange centerpiece. And cool details abound, including a reproduction Delco Energizer battery, a glass windshield washer bottle, fresh hoses and correct tower clamps.

Underneath this curve carving Z/28 you’ll find a freshly restored chassis that’s ready for both vintage league laps at the track and a mirrored turntable at the convention center. Behind the car’s original engine, a VIN stamped Muncie 4-speed transmission carries a correct 3925660 casting number above a 1969 model (9) Muncie (P) completed on November (S) 1st (1) 1968 assembly code. Transforming that transmission’s twist into thrust is a correct 12 bolt rear end that was no doubt rebuilt during the car’s extensive restoration. Turns come courtesy of a track tuned double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension with mandatory power front disc and rear drum brakes to provide driving dynamics which belies its chassis’ age. And a thrill inducing soundtrack roars through a large diameter true dual exhaust system which employs an H-pipe crossover and aggressive dual chamber Flowmaster mufflers. All this freshly restored muscle rolls on a traditional set of GM Rally wheels which spin modern 245/60/14 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around pristine trim rings and pit-free center caps. And not a detail was missed under this car’s floors with everything component restored to better-than-assembly-line standards.

Inside this cool coupe you’ll find a restored, and correct, GM code 711 black vinyl interior that’s in excellent shape. Like most first generation Camaros it’s nothing too fancy or sophisticated, but it does serve as a classic complement to the car’s blue and white exterior paint. On the floor, freshly installed carpet frames a chrome Hurst shifter that’s complete with a chrome cue ball shift knob. At the edges of that shifter standard seats feel firm to the touch. And at the sides of those seats standard door panels hang clean armrests, pit-free handles and correct black “Camaro” emblems inside pristine stainless trim. At the top of the car, a tight headliner stretches around a chrome trimmed dome lamp. At the front of the car, a 1969 Camaro exclusive dash props a smooth and crack-free pad above a rebuilt speedometer, and a direct fit AM/FM radio. Behind the cockpit a fully restored trunk hangs a correct decklid decal over a full-size spare tire and a fresh houndstooth mat. And no Camaro restoration is complete without a Rosewood rimmed GM Rally wheel!

This 1969 Camaro is a truly exceptional, properly restored, numbers matching Z/28 that’s an excellent investment opportunity. It’s certainly one classic that has the pedigree to match its awesome good looks and, thanks to an extensive restoration, it’s back in fit form as a factory-spec street fighter! If you’re a collector who’s looking for a unique centerpiece for your collection, or an enthusiast who wants to watch your car’s value increase over time, this no excuses Camaro is the logical choice.
