Everyone knows 60s Plymouth’s were designed to be low cost, high performance muscle machines. And since the earliest days of hot rodding, engine swaps have served as a means for sophisticated gearheads to continually satisfy their need for more speed, better times and less weight. This stunning Road Runner wraps a tweaked 426 Hemi and beefy A727 4-speed in a pristine, frame-off restoration. And, in traditional Mopar fashion, it’s fully sorted and ready to run with some of the nastiest hardware on the street!

Wearing a bright coat of light yellow paint, this Plymouth’s current, show worthy condition is the product of a professional rotisserie restoration that was completed in the fall of 2009. The car’s clean, original sheetmetal was stripped, supplemented with a fresh set of quarters and bathed in a modern two-stage pigment. And naturally, that smooth finish was sanded, polished and buffed to a spectacular, mirror-like shine.

Motivation is provided by a balanced 426 Hemi that, thanks to machine work by Mopar guru Ray Barton, makes killer 12.5 to 1 compression. That brutal mill was covered in traditional Hemi Orange skin and centered between crisp yellow fenders. And everything from the car’s big air cleaner to its dent-free oil pan presents a detailed, authentic appearance.

Behind that oil pan, a heavy duty A727 Torqueflite twists power through a tough 8.75-inch rear end to a standard Sure Grip differential and friendly 3.23 gears. That world class drivetrain hangs in a fully restored suspension, which benefits from factory power steering and heavy duty brakes. And at the corners of the car, painted steel wheels spin 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials around pristine stainless center caps.

Open this Road Runner’s doors and you’ll find nostalgic Chrysler styling that’s wrapped in traditional black vinyl. Restored bench and bucket seats sport freshly pleated covers that, judging by their appearance, haven’t seen any road time at all. The vintage aura continues onto the dashboard, which offers a pleasant layout of analog gauges. And in front of the driver, a simple black steering wheel laps a matte silver horn ring.

Not surprisingly, this show worthy Mopar happened to catch the eye of one of our loyal customers as it rolled into the RKM Performance Center. And, before our marketing team could even raise their studio door, a bill of sale had been drawn up. We’d like to thank the car’s happy new owner for once again choosing RK Motors Charlotte for all his octane-fueled needs. Here’s to many trophies, many years and many more miles behind the wheel of classic American muscle!
