Chevrolet’s 1965 Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks good no matter how it’s built. Stock, modified, race, pro-touring, whatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough muscle cars create a confident swagger that’s universally admired. That means, if you’re looking to ride in style, you really can’t go wrong with a Chevrolet A-Body. And when you factor in this Chevelle’s numbers-matching drivetrain, tastefully restored interior and first rate, all-American sheetmetal, you realize what an incredible car it really is!

By decoding the car’s VIN, we can authenticate its status as a real-deal Malibu Super Sport. And be decoding its cowl tag, we can confirm the accuracy of its top notch restoration.

During its complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration, this spotless Super Sport was entirely disassembled and striped of its dull, original paint. Under that aged single-stage, an incredibly straight fuselage featured solid panels that, with the exception of their current massage, had lead a quiet, drama-free existence. By the end of that massage, those panels featured better-than-factory alignment and, when opened and closed, sounded firm and functioned exceptionally well. That functional body’s Kansas-flat surfaces were then layered in a dynamic coat of correct GM code J Cypress Green two-stage. And today, this Chevelle is one fantastic looking hot rod that oozes cool even when it’s sitting still!

For 1965, the top-of-the-line Malibu SS utilized a classy appearance and unique trim pieces to distinguish itself from Chevrolet’s working class 300 and mid-level Malibu offerings. At the front of this clean coupe, bright halogen headlights and a black SS grille center a small Chevrolet crest between fresh “CHEVROLET” header letters, a new chrome bumper and bright amber parking lamps. At the sides of the car, cross-flag fender emblems and quarter-mounted “Malibu SS” scripts hint at an upscale personality while traditional door handles perfectly complement straight wheel frames and textured, SS-exclusive rockers. At the top of the car, a chrome hood fin leads the eye to like-new glass that’s traced by fresh stainless trim, cleared by bright stainless wipers and reflected in a chrome bowtie mirror. And at the back of the car, a stainless-trimmed, SS-exclusive valence hangs new tail lights, a third “Malibu SS” script and a second set of “CHEVROLET” header letters over a new chrome bumper, clear reverse lamps and bare stainless turndowns.

This sweet looking Chevy is powered by a 327 cubic inch, small block V8 that wears a correct 3782870 casting number behind an April (D) 8th (8) of 1965 (5) casting date, a matching 151233 partial VIN and a 300 horsepower L74 (EB) assembled on April (04) 14th (I4) in Flint, Michigan (F) build stamp. At the top of that mighty mill, a glossy, single-snorkel air cleaner swirls wind into a familiar intake via a correct Carter carburetor. At the sides of that intake, cast iron Chevrolet heads hang stamped and painted valve covers above fully restored exhaust manifolds. And at the back of those heads, a mandatory points distributor shoots spark through fresh Packard Radio TVRS wires. When fired, the red hot 327 springs to life and eagerly awaits more octane. Its ancillary components are top notch in every way, with reproduction GM hoses and a vintage Harrison radiator accompanying a traditional washer fluid bottle and a juicy Delco battery. And an evenly sprayed combination of Chevy Orange engine skin and satin black fender framing is complemented by a full array of correct chalk marks, shiny decals and fresh stainless fasteners.

Throw this Chevelle on a lift and you’ll find a traditional double A-arm front and 4-link rear suspension that’s completely rebuilt and fully detailed with bright paint daubs and weather-free parts tags. Above that suspension, rust-free floorpans, which received some light patching during the car’s restoration, are covered in a seamless layer of GM satin black paint. Behind the stout small block, an original M20 4-speed, which wears a correct 3851325 casting number above a Muncie (P) assembled on April (04) 13th (13) build stamp, sends torque to a prized 12 bolt rear end. Braking is handled by a full set of correct power drums that provide confidence inspiring pedal feel. Exhaust rumbles through aluminized and crinkle-bent tubes that are welded to large turbo mufflers and small resonators. And power flows to the pavement via tough steel wheels that spin 7.75-14 Firestone Deluxe Champion gold lines around stunning ‘simulated mag’ wheel covers. All of the car’s lines, hoses, brackets and fasteners, which were completely replaced at the time of restoration, show absolutely no weathering. And everything from this Chevy’s factory power steering to its fresh stainless fuel tank is fully sorted and ready to hit the road!

Open this A-Body’s rock-solid doors and you’ll find a correct GM code 770 Light Fawn interior that’s comfortable and exceptionally classy. In the middle of that interior, thick bucket and bench seats are in excellent shape and show little to no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a warp-free dash centers a small clock above correct Super Sport gauges, a vivid “Malibu SS” emblem and gorgeous chrome trim. At the base of that dash, like-new carpet anchors thick, rubber floor mats around restored Fisher lap belts and a modernist console that’s complete with a correct chrome shifter. At the sides of that carpet, two-tone door panels hang bright chrome handles and pliable Fawn armrests between pristine stainless trim and dent-free Fisher sills. At the top of those panels, a tight headliner frames color-keyed sun visors and a bright chrome mirror. In front of the driver, a classy wood steering wheel spins speed drilled and satin-finished spokes around a red, white and blue horn button. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk sandwiches a correct jack and fifth Firestone Deluxe Champion gold line between a fresh mat and new decklid decal.

This classy Chevy’s sale includes an original window sticker, an assortment of operator’s manuals and a vintage sales brochure.

Fully restored and professionally sorted, this top-of-the-line Chevelle is a first rate classic that’s ready for years of shows and miles of cruising. It’s one of the last great no-nonsense, no-frills designs to come out of Detroit; and it’s the kind of car that your family will enjoy for generations. Whether your interest lies in killer cruisers, classic good looks, or vintage Chevrolet style, this Malibu SS has it all!
