The goat practically defined the golden age of Detroit, and by the time its first production run was over, it had become the best-selling muscle car of all time. Not surprisingly, demand for these cornerstone classics continues to be strong, and in the first half of 2013 we’ve shipped six awesome GTOs to six very satisfied owners. The beneficiary of a professional, frame-off restoration, this well-documented hardtop is probably one of the cleanest Pontiacs we’ve ever offered. With a numbers matching drivetrain, solid sheetmetal and a correct blue on blue color combination, it’s the perfect turn-key muscle car for anyone who enjoys cruising fast, wide and loud. The beneficiary of a professional, frame-off restoration, this super cool A-Body is a perfect blend of expert craftsmanship and fine attention to detail. With a solid body present and accounted for, the car was carefully straightened and sanded into better-than-new condition. Once that comprehensive metal work transitioned from the garage bay to the paint booth, the classic 60s panels were re-sprayed in their correct GM code E Nightwatch Blue. When that paint dried, it was sealed in clear and buffed to a clean, flat shine. And today, officially unleashed as the epitome of old school American style, this goat is one seriously cool head turner that’ll drop jaws just as easily as it’ll win trophies.

Tough, understated and attractive, this GTO perfectly defines Pontiac’s lasting legacy of tempering sophistication with aggression. The front of the car is dominated by trademark, stainless-trimmed grilles that are anchored between stacked T3 headlights, a pristine, satin-finish arrowhead and a body-width chrome bumper. Inside those grilles, a prominent “G T O” emblem hints at the performance bolted beneath a new-for-1965, GTO-exclusive hood scoop. At the sides of that scoop, expressive ‘coke bottle’ fenders hang dent-free wheel well trim and arrow-straight rocker moldings around correct chrome door handles. On the outsides of those fenders, bright red GTO crests combine with black “G T O” quarter scripts, creating visual excitement to match the car’s visceral thrill. Above those crests, like-new glass combines with well-maintained stainless, straight chrome drip rails and a correct driver’s mirror to highlight the car’s awesome pillarless profile. And behind that glass, a second body-width bumper hangs integrated reverse lamps below a finned valence, an ominous “G T O” badge, a second satin-finish arrowhead and appropriately centered “PONTIAC” lettering that lets the competition know exactly who outran them.

Raise this Pontiac’s long steel hood and the first thing you’ll notice is a raucous 389 that’s been completely rebuilt and layered in attractive blue paint. Less obvious of course, is that stalwart V8’s correct 9778789 casting number, November (K) 8th (8) of 1964 (4) casting date and 2-speed-exclusive “YS” assembly stamp. Dubbed ‘Pontiac’s Trophy 389’ because of its domination in motorsports, this legendary block, which is good for 10.75 to 1 compression, 335 horsepower and 431 lb./ft. of torque, is one of the first production engines to feature purpose-built performance hardware. Its big 4-barrel carburetor feeds a correct high output intake, which is bolted between pristine chrome valve covers. Fires are lit by a familiar points distributor, which jolts spark through fresh AC Delco 7mm Premium Wires. Cooling is provided by a correct radiator, which sends water around a correct fan shroud via pliable hoses and traditional tower clamps. And charred dinosaurs are funneled through a nice pair of restored exhaust manifolds. At the back of the clean mill, you’ll find a fresh Delco Moraine brake booster that feeds a quartet of heavy duty drums. At the front of the engine, a Delco Energizer battery topper rides opposite modern air conditioning equipment. And everything inside the car’s smooth, satin black fenders is exceptionally restored and looks fantastic!

Logging few miles since its noble rebirth, this goat’s subdued floors and super clean frame are completely free of significant issues and major defects. The stout 389 sends power to a stalwart TempesTorque transmission, which wears a correct “65 NA” assembly tag. That proven Hydramatic spins a tough GM 10-bolt that’s stuffed with gravel busting gears. At the sides of that rock-solid drivetrain, aluminized, true-dual exhaust pipes connect the car’s restored manifolds with tough turbo mufflers and familiar side-splitter tips. At the sides of that booming soundtrack, a professionally restored suspension is complete with factory-optioned power steering, modern air shocks and heavy duty power drum brakes. Applying the muscle to the pavement is a polished set of 17-inch American Racing Torq Thrust IIs which spin 215/55 Mastercraft Touring LSRs in front of 235/55 Mastercraft Touring LSRs. As it sits, this Poncho has no major leaks of any kind, as new fluid lines still retain most of their parts store shine. And absolutely everything from this Tiger’s fresh stainless fuel tank to its bright blue oil pan is fully sorted and ready to hit the road!

Open this coupe’s freshly finished doors and you’ll find a fully restored, and correct, GM code 217-33 Blue vinyl interior that’s simple yet sporty. Front and center is firm bucket and bench seats which feature bright chrome trim, cool pleated covers and era-correct lap belts. The engine’s vitals are displayed by a rebuilt gauge cluster which integrates round-faced dials and a modern Custom Autosound stereo into a veneer-trimmed dash that’s reminiscent of European sports cars. On the floors, like-new carpet anchors a chrome shifter inside a stainless-trimmed console and black, GTO-branded floor mats. At the sides of the car, fresh blue door panels feature new chrome handles and fresh stainless trim that parallels bright red GTO crests. In front of the driver, a chrome-trimmed steering wheel spins a classy horn ring around a Turquoise, Pontiac-branded horn button. And behind the passengers, a spotless trunk sandwiches a correct jack and a full-size spare tire between a new mat and a correct decklid decal.

The sale of this pristine classic includes original dealership paperwork, an original owner’s manual, a small stack of California registrations, a book of restoration photos, a full packet of Pontiac Historic Services paperwork, and some random receipts and component manuals.
