Introduced in 1958 as Chevrolet’s first foray upmarket, the Impala proved GM’s volume car juggernaut had the strength to be all things to all people. It was the ride your upper class neighbors enjoyed and, like the original Bel Air, it wholly embodied the time of its creation. With that in mind, the restoration of this awesome, first generation coupe involved a frame-off mix of nostalgia and convenience that created a better-than-new cruiser. Amenities like power steering, power brakes, a modern small block and an automatic transmission make this the perfect car for long drives while classic lines, an era-correct interior and miles of pearl paint are sure to keep collectors happy. If you’re looking for a spectacular classic that’s road ready, show ready, and just plain ready to go, this fully-sorted Chevy is a whole lot of metal for not a lot of money!

Logging only weekend miles since its highly detailed restoration, this brassy bowtie displays excellent bodywork that simply glistens under our showroom lights. A lot of time and effort was put into making sure the car’s body is extremely straight, which resulted in Kansas-flat sheetmetal that’s completely wave-free. That time was well spent as excellent panel gaps perfectly center hinged pieces which move freely and close with a solid thunk. And those pieces are bathed in a rich layer of Pearl White basecoat that’s been sealed in a rugged clearcoat shell and buffed to a spectacular shine.

Speaking of shine, Chevrolet’s newly anointed line topper certainly did its fair share to pad the polishing industry. And, as with its sculpted body, all of this Impala’s jewelry was returned to like-new condition. At the front of the car, a 3-piece bumper props a broad stainless grille behind four clear parking lamps. Above that grille, traditional Chevrolet hood ornamentation rides between bright T3 headlights and good looking ’58 Impala-exclusive fender toppers. At the sides of those toppers, straight stainless spears, which visually connect the car’s front fenders with its rear fins, are molded around bright Impala emblems. At the edges of those spears, dent-free rocker guards and traditional chrome door handles perfectly complement ’58 Impala-exclusive fender louvers and stylish decklid antennas. At the top of those handles, clean stainless trim combines with new chrome mirrors and bright stainless wipers to frame factory-tint glass. And behind that glass, six Impala-exclusive tail lights illuminate a second chrome bumper, big stainless exhaust tips and an optional continental kit that mimics the car’s “Chevrolet” branded trunk.

Lift this coupe’s pearlescent hood and you’ll find a 350 cubic inch GM crate motor that’s fully sorted and ready to cruise. A staple of working-class power, this stalwart mill is one of the many reasons Chevrolet’s famed small block is considered one of the greatest engines ever created. And absolutely every item, from its thick coat of Chevy Orange paint to its finned and bowtie-branded valve covers, has at one point been rebuilt, refinished or completely replaced. At the top of the bright block, a chrome, open-element air cleaner funnels wind into a coated Edelbrock carburetor that’s cinched to a camouflaged Edelbrock intake. At the sides of that intake, restored ram’s horn manifolds allow big cylinders ample breathing room by funneling spent gases into a custom, true-dual exhaust system. At the back of those manifolds, a modern HEI distributor shoots fire through familiar gray plug wires. And opposite that distributor, a glossy Harrison radiator cycles water past a modern flex fan via leak-free hoses and vintage screw clamps. A slew of visual and mechanical bits, including a bowtie-branded breather, a modern brake booster, a color-keyed transmission dipstick and a reproduction Delco battery, ensure this V8 presents as well as it plays. And the car’s Pearl White engine bay, which is every bit as clean as its super slick body, creates an ideal backdrop for the mill’s many different textures.

Park this Chevy on a lift and you’ll find a solid undercarriage that’s no stranger to mirrors and occasional flash bulbs. The car’s straight floorpans are over-restored in the same Pearl White two-stage that sets off both its bay and body; and that body rides on a glossy black X-frame. A proven Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed spins a correct GM posi-traction rear end that literally sails the engine through its broad power band. Under that capable drivetrain, a completely rebuilt coil suspension is equipped with modern power steering, adjustable air bags, Air Ride Technologies shocks and power front disc and rear drum brakes. At the center of the floors, an aluminized, true-dual exhaust system utilizes polished Magnaflow mufflers and bright, stainless tips to weave an aggressive, full throttle rumble into a subdued and classy idle. At the corners of the suspension, great looking 7.50-14 Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewalls frame deluxe factory spinners. And everything from this coupe’s big sway bar to its leak-free fuel tank is fully restored and ready to hit the pavement.

In the 1950s, GM was the king of design. Period. And this Impala’s striking interior is one of the most beautiful cockpits ever mounted behind a motor. As fastidiously crafted as the car’s bodywork, the red, silver and black benches are firm and extremely spacious. There’s a stylish 1958 Chevy dash that’s based in red, trimmed in brushed aluminum and equipped with chrome-rimmed gauges, a modern AM/FM stereo and a correct factory clock. Note the car’s spectacular door panels, which carry their combination of chrome and two-tone aluminum all the way to a bright red package tray. Below the seats, stain-free carpet is protected by deluxe rubber floor mats. The centerpiece of this tailored environment is an expertly restored, two-tone steering wheel which is cinched between a chrome Turboglide shifter, bright horn ring and classy Impala emblem. And behind the cockpit, a show quality trunk features a reproduction mat, a second full-size spare and plenty of room to pack whatever your itinerary calls for.

With a fresh restoration, fully-sorted mechanicals and more style than pretty much anything on the road, this revered Impala literally defines the term “strong value”. After all, when was the last time you saw this caliber classic for under $50k? Talk to us now and make space in your garage later – this Chevy won’t wait around!
