Want a super cool cruiser that’s ready to show? How about one with some of the best vintage styling ever draped over two doors and four tires? If the answer is a resounding “YES”, this 1951 Ford F1 is exactly what you’ve been searching for! With its massive, 460 cubic inch V8, fun 4-speed transmission and wet-look aesthetics, this all-steel classic is the perfect ride for anyone who enjoys exploring the open road. If you’re looking to add a little spice to your weekend routine, here’s the perfect way to take Sunday drives to a whole new level!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Sporting a somewhat pontoon design and classic good looks, the father of Ford’s legendary F-Series has always been a highly desirable line of trucks. And not surprisingly, gearheads, customizers and 65 years’ worth of fans have elevated it to one of hot rodding’s greatest cultural icons. With the help of a 2006 rebuild that was conducted by Auto Classic Coach Restoration of West End, North Carolina, this first generation pickup was transformed into one smooth-driving cruiser. That rebuild began with shaping up the truck’s all-steel fuselage. Once that solid profile was married to a fresh wood bed, metallic black base was dressed in mirror-like clear. And today, this classy hot rod is one sizzling classic that looks cooler than pretty much every car at any show its owner chooses to attend!

As expected, this awesome Ford’s first rate detailing highlights both its solid form and stunning paint. At the front of the truck, a “V8” branded header rides between a simple bumper, a body-matched grille and bold “FORD” lettering. At the sides of that grille, sculpted fenders center stainless-trimmed HZ headlights in front of twisting door handles, a small fuel filler and Ford-branded running boards. Opposite those boards, a lightly tinted greenhouse rides between polished mirrors and a chrome-trimmed, “F-2” branded hood. And, at the back of the truck, a “Ford” branded tailgate reflects polished taillights and a second chrome bumper.

ENGINE

While Ford’s trusty Y-block is a good engine that provides a solid ownership experience, this F1’s high quality restoration includes high quality upgrades. And those high quality upgrades begin with 460 cubic inches of big block V8: a set-up that served duty as the F-Series’ top option mill for many years. The motor’s energy mixture is supplied by a big Holley carburetor, which is sandwiched between polished fluid lines, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and a polished Ford Racing air cleaner. That mixture travels in to Ford-supplied heads, which center polished Ford Racing valve covers under a polished Ford Racing breather. At the front of those valve covers, a proven MSD distributor sequences fire between MSD 6AL ignition, an MSD Blaster 2 coil and loomed Belden Max Protection Max Power plug wires. That fire is kept in check by a beefy radiator, which is mated to a large Flex-a-Lite puller fan. Old school V-belts spin a rebuilt alternator and modern power steering while spent gases are cycled through cast iron exhaust manifolds. And an acute combination of Ford Blue and Satin Black paint ensures the truck is more than just a random curbside attraction.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Every good hot rod has a solid foundation. Flip this Ford upside down and you’ll find a roster of mechanical improvements that mix classic looks with modern mobility. Behind the big block, a 4-speed manual transmission spins likable, road-ready gears. Beneath that drivetrain, a thoroughly rebuilt suspension frames power rack-and-pinion steering in a Fatman Fabrications front clip. Power front disc and rear drum brakes are a welcome addition and big performance upgrade. There’s an impressive dual exhaust system that employs an H-shaped crossover and skinny, glasspack-style mufflers. And everything rides on smooth chrome steelies, which twist 255/65R16 Michelin LTX radials.

INTERIOR

Wrapped in clean black vinyl, this pickup’s interior is simple, tasteful and extremely durable. A body-matched dash hangs rebuilt factory telemetry above factory foot pedals, a factory steering wheel and a factory Magic Aire heater. In front of that dash, a broad bench seat is supple and supportive. At the bottom of that seat, tight carpet trims a curved shifter. At the sides of the passengers, stylish door panels found familiar chrome handles. And, overhead, a segmented headliner bridges the gap between a small mirror and color-keyed sail panels.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Ford guy, MoPar guy or Chevy guy, this clean truck is one of those classics that transcends barriers and claims universal appeal. Its great looks, great performance and great aesthetics all add up to one cool cruiser that can be enjoyed and admired every day of the summer. Indulge as is, or tinker with it to make it sharper, either way you’ll have some first-rate metal that has great curb appeal!
