Hot rods are like custom suits; they’re each built to satisfy a specific taste and often embody just one person’s vision. However, every now and then someone strikes the perfect formula and builds a timeless car that is so clean and so well-executed that it finds a large and enthusiastic audience. This 1934 Ford Hi-Boy is a ground-up build that takes a bored and blown motor and combines it with a proven drivetrain and a traditional hot rod vision to create an old school car that’s ready to tear up the streets or the show circuit.
Professionally finished in Ferrari Red, this smokin’ ’34 Ford features a completely fiberglass body that’s topped by a three piece steel hood and fronted by a V-shaped stainless steel grille. With solid closing suicide doors and a flush fitting rumble seat, the fiberglass body’s top quality resin presents a wave-free surface and straight panel gaps that perfectly complement the classic contours of the cars design. At the front of the car, the pointed stainless grille sits between two chrome Dietz headlights and two square parking lights that are mounted on top of body-matched frame horns. Behind the grille, a three piece steel hood features louvered side panels that run to a chopped windshield which is completely framed in show quality stainless trim. At the sides of that stainless trim, square rearview mirrors hang above shaved suicide doors that are bolted to the car via traditional bear claw hinges. At the rear of the car, a black fabric top features a small glass window and folds neatly behind the seats just in front of a billet trimmed LED third brake light and stainless power antenna. At the bottom of the rumble seat square, billet trimmed LED tail lights sit above a body matched differential with polished rear coil overs and the cars stainless exhaust system. With a minimum of brightwork, this ’34 Hi-boy’s body has a nice old school look, and the awesome Ferrari Red paint is bright enough to let the neighbors know this car is definitely something special, but not so bright as to jeopardize the cars classy demeanor.
Under the three piece hood, ample power is supplied by a 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 that has been bored .030 over and massaged to deliver spectacular performance. At the top of the engine, a K&N X-Stream air filter sends air into on a Weiand blower that’s equipped with a Holley Commander 950 TBI fuel injection system. At the sides of the blower, chrome Chevrolet valve covers sit on top of Edelbrock aluminum heads that have been upfitted with slick roller rocker arms. Below the heads, Taylor performance plug wires snake around ceramic coated long tube Hooker Headers which send exhaust into a high performance true dual system. At the back of the engine, a firewall mounted MSD ignition system sends power to a traditional points distributor, and at the front of the engine a chrome Power Master alternator sits behind a Be Cool aluminum radiator that’s equipped with both a polished Be Cool electric fan and chrome flex hoses. And don’t worry; all of the aesthetic appeal is there too as this clean Chevrolet 350 is detailed with Ferrari Red and polished metal from its firewall and hood braces all the way to its engine block and shielded oil pan.
Underneath the car, a GM Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission that’s equipped with a Hurst quick shift kit, a transmission cooler and a polished pan sends power to an unstoppable Ford 9 inch rear end. At the front of the car, a modern front suspension that’s equipped with polished tubular control arms and polished coil over shocks sits behind a Mocal oil cooler that’s mounted just below the cars stainless grille. At the back of the car, polished coil overs combine with Aldan adjustable shocks to provide a modern ride and a classic hot rod stance. A new brake booster, mounted on the frame under the driver’s side of the car sends fluid through braided front lines and fresh rear hoses to four wheel disc brakes. At the center of the car a custom fabricated true dual exhaust system sends gases through a welded H-pipe, XLerator performance mufflers, polished stainless resonators and large diameter tips. At the corners of the car, 15 inch steel wheels wear pristine stainless center caps on top of Ferrari Red paint and 195/65 front and 265/75 rear performance radials. The bottom of this ’34 Ford is as detailed as its great looking engine bay and includes small touches like fresh stainless fuel lines and chassis hardware, braided oils lines, and a body matched drivetrain to present a complete, show ready appearance.
Inside this cool Hi-Boy hot rod, a custom black leather interior complements the Ferrari Red exterior paint perfectly. Open the doors and check out the pleated black leather door panels that feature billet aluminum handles and match the black leather seat perfectly. In front of the driver the red dash houses a full assortment of black VDO instrumentation that includes an all-important boost gauge, and in front of the passenger, a Panasonic AM/FM CD player features XM Satellite capability. Below the dash, a Lokar Nostalgia floor shifter mounts next to small chrome foot pedals and a polished tilt steering column that nicely incorporates the cars VDO temperature gauge. On the floor, fresh black carpet sits below large speakers in the kick panels and is protected by black carpeted floor mats. Interfacing with the driver is great looking black rimmed banjo style steering wheel and a small billet aluminum rearview mirror that’s mounted at the top of the chopped windshield. The rumble seat, which is certainly the best seat in the house, features matching pleated leather seat covers and is completely finished with black pleated side panels.
Documentation included with this ’34 Ford is a nice stack of build receipts and paperwork from the cars construction.
This ’34 Hi-Boy is the real deal. It has classic good looks, a sizzling motor and professional build quality all in a super clean package that trades the wild graphics and typical body mods for an unassuming ‘walk softly and carry a big stick’ mentality. It’ll eat the other guy’s lunch at the stoplight, take home trophies wherever it goes, and put a smile on your face every time you see it in the garage. Call today!
