Cars like the 1932 Ford Coupe just never go out of fashion. From the instant it hit the streets to its huge following in today’s street rod community, the ‘32 Ford has always been at the pinnacle of automotive greatness. Of course, the ’32 Ford probably wouldn’t be where it is today without the timeless tradition of hot rodding. And thanks to the constant evolution of hot rodding technology, it’s pretty easy to build your own Ford Coupe as long as you have a lot of time, a lot of patience and A LOT of money. Fortunately for those of us who’d rather retire than build a hot rod, RK Motors Charlotte offers what we call ‘smart buying’ an already finished car. The work is already done, the money already spent, and the result is a great-looking street rod that you can drive home today for a fraction of the build cost. This wicked 1932 Ford Coupe, with its custom suspension, outrageous drivetrain and sinister color combination is a perfect example of a smart buy that you can win a trophy with on Saturday and cruise the country side with on Sunday. So, if you’re looking to score a fully sorted street rod that mixes classic good looks with modern road manners, we have your car!
Downs Industries is a family owned company that has spent the last 30 years supplying the classic car hobby with some of the best fiberglass components ever produced. And with virtually no imperfections, this slick ’32 Ford’s Downs fiberglass fuselage is a testament to exactly why they’ve enjoyed such great success. It displays smooth vertical panels that would give an all-steel car a serious run for its money, and presents an arrow straight profile which looks absolutely fantastic under a rich and glossy coat of jet black paint. Naturally, a body this nice deserves to be seen and celebrated to the highest extent, so its expertly applied clearcoat was tirelessly wet sanded to achieve an even finish and then buffed to a super slick, mirror-like shine. Today, with only 5,417 sunny day miles on its complete build, this killer three window coupe is a striking mix of first class build quality and classic proportions that literally defines old school style and street rod brawn!
When California Dreamin’ Hot Rods of North Tonawanda, New York built this awesome black coupe, they made sure every detail was exceptionally well-done. And the result is a car that not only turns heads and drops jaws, but also creates a lasting impression which sets it apart from lesser builds. At the front of the car, body-matched frame horns hold a body matched spreader bar below a Dan Fink stainless grille and two great looking Ford Model A Twolite headlights that have been equipped with integrated turn signals. Behind that grille, a one piece steel hood flows across polished hardware toward a chopped roof which hangs smoked glass between small, black rearview mirrors. Those mirrors are attached to shaved suicide doors which open courtesy of electronic poppers and, along with the rest of the car’s clean fuselage, help create the seamless reflections and classic ‘stripped down’ look that is typical of top notch fenderless street rods. And at the back of that fuselage, a diamond plate tag bracket hangs between chrome trimmed tear drop tail lights, a custom differential cover and a seamlessly integrated center high mount stop lamp which illuminates a trick electric trunk lid.
As timeless and appealing as this badass street rod’s full profile is, if I added it to my collection I’d have to run it sans hood. Why, you ask? Because in order to fully appreciate the fully detailed, 600+ horsepower 355 cubic inch small block Chevy that sits just inside its front tires, you need a full line of sight into its gloss black engine bay! At the top of that black engine bay, a pair of chrome Holley carburetors mix air from a polished shotgun intake and re-usable filter element with a steady stream of fuel which travels through a billet CV Products fuel pump, a pressurized Marshall fuel gauge, polished stainless fuel lines, braided fuel hoses and high quality Earl’s fittings. At the base of those carburetors, a polished B&M supercharger spins between lightweight aluminum heads that are complete with stylish polished valve covers, and an MSD Pro-Billet distributor which sends fire through fresh MSD Super Conductor plug wires. All that hardcore combustion is cooled by a high quality radiator which sends water past a quick spinning electric fan and a polished overflow tank to custom chrome, TIG welded water tubes and a polished water pump. All that fire is kept alive by a chrome alternator that, thanks to a polished bracket, a billet pulley and a fresh V-belt, sends charge to an American Autowire system. And all of the resulting spent gases are jettisoned thanks to a slick looking pair of ceramic coated Sanderson zoomie headers. As with its fully detailed exterior panels, nothing was missed under the hood of this sharp ’32 Ford; and when New Tech Marine built its smooth and clean engine, they finished it with high quality ancillary items such as, a chrome mini starter, polished motor mounts, a polished breather, a chrome timing chain cover and even a billet dip stick that’s complete with a sleeved tube.
Take a look underneath this impressive ’32 Coupe, and you’ll find a super clean undercarriage that is just as well detailed as its show stopping engine. A chrome front solid axle suspension, which is complete with a transverse leaf spring, combines with a chrome four link rear suspension, which is complete with satin finished coil over shocks and a gloss black panhard bar, to produce thoroughly modern ride and handling characteristics. At the center of that custom suspension, a black Turbo-Hydramatic 350, which was built by Competition Transmission in North Tonawanda, New York, sends power to a polished Halibrand Quickchange rear end which does a great job of providing both stare inducing Main Street parade passes and hair raising quarter mile trap speeds. Quick stops are provided by a frame mounted, and body matched, power brake booster which sends fluid through stainless steel lines and braided hoses to chrome shielded front discs and traditional rear drums. And easy turns come courtesy of manual Flaming River steering which provides a cool, vintage feel without ungainly vintage performance. Exceptionally clean and completely finished for show, the bottom of this Ford includes details such as: an Oak reinforced floor pan, a gloss black boxed frame which is complete with tubular cross bracing, a Milodon oil pan, a polished transmission pan, a body matched driveshaft and a complete set of fresh stainless lines and hardware. And at the corners of the car, polished aluminum American Racing Torq Thrust IIs spin 195/60/15 BF Goodrich Advantage front radials and 275/60/17 BF Goodrich Comp T/A rear radials around special order American Racing center caps.
The cars sinister looks flow right through its chopped window frames into its cave-like cockpit and manifest as soft burgundy leather which covers virtually every surface of the interior except the dash. The pleated leather bench seat is firm, provides excellent support thanks to ample padding and displays a cool marble pattern that is either a carefully planned detail or a lucky product of just the right amount of break in time. At the sides of that seat, custom pleated door panels, which are equipped with billet handles, billet locks and small power window buttons, hang between custom covered kick panels and a custom covered rear panel. Below the seat like-new burgundy carpet, which flows from the firewall to the back of the cockpit, props a chrome Lokar shifter with a trick piston shift knob next to good looking chrome foot pedals and a hidden chrome emergency brake handle. And above the seats, a tight and fade-free custom leather headliner is perfectly accented by a small, billet rearview mirror. At the front of the car, a smooth dash, which has been painted dark maroon to match the leather interior, hangs a full set of Classic Instruments gauges above a remote control which operates the electric doors and trunk, hidden controls for the car’s accessories and a hidden Secret Audio system. In front of the driver, a polished 6-spoke steering wheel spins above a maroon, tilt column that is equipped with a full set of billet stalks. And at the back of the car, a completely carpeted and upholstered trunk hangs a billet “V8” emblem above a standard issue fire extinguisher.
Included with the sale of this cool custom ’32 Ford Coupe is a stack of component manuals and a small album of build photos.
If you’re looking for a street rod that’ll part crowds, but isn’t so moody it requires a trailer escort to get to the show, this awesome ’32 Ford Coupe is your kind of car! With its super slick body, spectacular powertrain and supple interior, it wraps serious style and serious power in a package that you can cruise and enjoy. Classic good looks and modern hot rod technology packaged in a professional build that simply cannot be duplicated for anywhere near our unbeatable asking price? What more can you ask for?
