What happens when you take a ’32 Ford body, bolt it to a Bobby Alloway frame, drop in a modern Chevrolet V8 and pile on a list of mind blowing parts for good measure? You get one incredible street rod that instantly becomes the center of attention wherever it goes! Featuring a traditionally clean appearance, a custom leather interior and a level of detail that requires multiple looks to fully comprehend, this stunning black roadster is a compilation of top-notch components from some of the biggest names in the business. And what’s better: it’s a fully sorted, professionally finished cruiser that was built, above all else, to be driven and enjoyed. With most street rods, there’s usually a single piece that catches your eye long before anything else. And that’s often a demerit to the overall presentation of the car. In an effort to set their creation apart, builders sometimes add overwrought elements that become more of a distraction than a selling point; especially as the project ages. Not so with this roadster… EVERY piece of its puzzle fits right and tight, on the way to upholding a great vision of what hot rodding is supposed to be. Step back and admire the shape of the car’s Rat’s Glass body. Completed in early 2014 by its current owner, his good friends and the folks at Creative Customs in Spartanburg, South Carolina, it’s the kind of profile that would turn heads in primer. So, what better way to ensure sore neck muscles than adding slick black paint and traditional-style flames? If you’re a hardcore gearhead that likes to rise above the crowd, this awesome Ford is one classic that’s guaranteed to pop eyes and drop jaws anywhere you choose to go.

Of course, dramatic paint and bodywork doesn’t necessarily make up for terrible detailing. But, naturally, this well-executed custom strikes an excellent balance between unique and utilitarian. At the front of the car, a Dan Fink grille aligns between modern, tri-bar headlights. Behind that grille, a 3-piece Rootlieb hood flows to a classy Duvall windshield that’s filled with tastefully smoked glass. At the sides of that hood, a characteristically clean and simple profile presents shaved doors, hidden hinges and uninterrupted form. And at the back of that profile, a power-lift decklid rides above a smoked and smoothed tail light. It’s hard to beat the appeal of a well-done Ford roadster. And this Ford, with its virtually timeless aesthetics, essentially defines its class.

Cosmetics aside, this hot rod continues the theme of high performance neck snapper. Lift its steel hood and you’ll find GM’s potent LS1 small block: a forerunner to virtually all the technology still featured in Chevrolet sports cars. Utilizing aluminum construction, flat top pistons and coil-near-plug ignition, this efficient mill is conservatively rated at 345 horsepower and 350 lb./ft. of Kansas-flat torque. And, despite its ability to deliver track-blistering performance, it passes all emissions tests, drives like a commuter car and still pulls 26 MPG on the highway! At the top of the hot block, a polished and “LS1” branded air cleaner complements painted and polished fuel rail covers. Beneath those covers, a chrome Street & Performance intake pumps oxygen through coated Street & Performance block huggers. At the front of those headers, chrome Street & Performance pulleys spin a chrome Street & Performance alternator. In front of those ancillaries, a Steve Long radiator barely breaks a sweat thanks to an electric puller fan. And, aesthetically, everything on this LS1, from its Howell wiring harness to its trick Lokar dipstick, is done, detailed and ready to dazzle.

Under this roadster’s well-planned and professionally executed powerplant you’ll find a whole catalogue of custom performance parts that mix excellent driving dynamics with great visual effect. For starters, a Bobby Alloway chassis cradles a GM 4L60E 4-speed that was factory engineered to live behind the LS1. At the front of that gearbox, a chromed 4-bar suspension hangs modern Aldan coil-overs between sweet Super Bell spindles. At the back of that gearbox, another chromed 4-bar hangs an aluminum-cased Currie 9-inch, a limited-slip differential and big 4.10 gears between fresh Pete & Jake’s coil-overs. Stops are provided by polished Wilwood calipers, which squeeze four drilled and slotted rotors. The engine’s killer soundtrack roars through polished, large-diameter tail pipes to Flowmaster Hushpower mufflers. Torque splits the asphalt thanks to fully polished Billet Specialties Chicaynes, which spin 205/40ZR17 BF Goodrich radials in front of 295/40ZR20 BF Goodrich radials. And high quality detailing, like stainless fluid lines, a finned transmission cooler and a polished flywheel cover, marries top notch form with excellent function.

Inside this awesome street rod you’ll find a stunning leather interior that was installed by well-known customizer Chuck Hannah. There’s a deep, contoured seat which is firm, provides good support and looks fantastic. At the sides of that seat, layered door panels feature small, simplistic trim. Below that seat, clean carpet anchors color-keyed floor mats between a familiar Lokar shifter and precise Lokar foot pedals. In front of that seat, a body-matched dash sandwiches a tan leather instrument panel between a recessed Panasonic CD player and sweet Classic Instruments gauges. In front of the driver, a polished steering wheel establishes the layering theme for the aforementioned door panels. And behind the passengers, the car’s fully upholstered trunk hides an impressive Alpine amp below a trick billet hinge.

Since so many enthusiasts are focused on building American Graffiti-style customs, this Ford isn’t exactly something you’ll see at every show.
