The Ford Model A was a huge success for the Ford Motor Company and is the first car that comes to mind when many think of early American steel. It single handedly spawned Americas love affair with trucks and laid the foundation for what would become one of the bestselling vehicles of all time. With exceptional attention to detail, a great restoration and beautiful finish work, this AACA National Senior First Place winning 1930 Ford Model A Pickup has a ton of original character and preserves all that is great about vintage Fords.

Equipped with traditional black Model A fenders and a non-traditional red Model A body, this pickup combines old school good looks with a modern color update that is much more appealing than the factory optioned maroon, blue, gray or green that most restored Model As wear. The workmanship and finish on this pickup is top notch with a body that is free of ripples and paint that is free of imperfections. Up front, the ‘flying quail’ radiator cap looks classy above the new for 1930 stainless steel radiator cowling and complements a chrome radiator guard. In front of the radiator guard, the black headlight bar holds 2 pristine headlights that are housed in new for 1930 stainless headlight housings and correctly stamped with Ford logos. Hanging on the left of the headlight bar is a correct gloss black Sparton horn that is equipped with a correct tag and works perfectly. In front of the gloss black fenders, a chrome plated steel spring front bumper features correctly spaced ‘blue eye’ brackets. Behind the radiator, the hinged and louvered hood is in excellent shape and is flanked by stainless trim that runs around the edge of the firewall and complements the chrome cap on top of the gravity feed gas tank. The front window, like all of the glass in the pickup, is brand new and is one of the first windshields designed for the use of safety glass. A chrome windshield wiper blade sits rests on the glass and tilts with the window to left in the breeze as you’re motoring down the road. Above the window, a factory visor attaches at the front of a correct Colonial Grain vinyl top that looks as if it’s never seen sun light. The doors are held on by correct bear claw hinges and held closed by correct chrome door handles that show no wear. On the driver’s side door a stylish chrome mirror is mounted at the top bear claw hinge for style and functionality. The bed of this pickup has been fully restored with light wood and stainless hardware and looks stellar trimmed in the body’s bright red paint. Bed rails made out of the same wood have been added to provide a more authentic look and the tailgate is embossed with the timeless cursive Ford script. At the sides of the tailgate, chains are wrapped in fabric to keep scuffs under control and below the tailgate, chrome plated steel spring rear bumpers feature correct ‘blue eye’ brackets. On the rear fenders, awesome 1930 Ford Duo Lamp tail lights with stainless housings light correct red and amber lenses and even incorporate a tag light on the left side.

Fold open that steel hood or remove the louvered sides and you’ll find a correct 40 horsepower L-head four cylinder that measures 201 cubic inches. Painted olive green, this motor might be slow but it was an exceptionally reliable workhorse that would eventually be supplanted by Ford’s flathead V8. On the passenger’s side of the engine, stainless fuel lines gravity feed fuel from the cowl mounted fuel tank through a correct sediment bowl and into a correct one barrel Zenith carburetor. Directly above the motor, a gloss black coil runs power to a correct Model A distributor that sits top dead center on the motor and sends fire to four Motorcraft spark plugs. Exhaust is piped out of a correct exhaust manifold and into a correct muffler. And in front of the engine, a correct 2 blade pulley mounted fan sits behind the correct radiator and is driven by a new V belt. Correct hoses and gloss black tubing run from the radiator to the block and are secured by correct clamps. The engine compartment is finished in the same bright red as the body and features the pickups original body plate on the passenger’s side firewall and black accessories throughout including a correct generator and thermostat housing.

The bottom of this pickup is so clean that I’m willing to bet it hasn’t seen much pavement time since its completion and certainly hasn’t been in any sort of rain or inclement weather. Everything has been professionally painted in gloss black and every part is correct to how the pickup rolled out of its Ford assembly plant. A 3-speed sliding gear manual transmission sends power to 3.77 gears in the rear end to provide motivation for the rear wheels. At the front of the truck a gloss black oil pan matches the gloss black suspension perfectly and the exhaust pipe runs past a gloss black shield through a correctly baffled muffler and into a tail pipe that stops just short of the rear axle. Mechanical drum brakes sit at all four corners on each side of correct transversely mounted leaf springs. Out back, the wooden bed is bolted to wooden mounting blocks that look great against the gloss black suspension. At the middle of the frame, a battery is mounted right under the drivers floor pan. The pickup rolls on correct 19 inch wire spoke wheels that are painted attention grabbing bright yellow and look right at home inside the black fenders. Those wheels wear traditional size 4.75/5.00-19 Firestone white walls and are detailed with Ford stamped chrome center caps and chrome lug nuts.

If you’ve ever driven a real Model A pickup, you know how simple and cool the interior is. An arched, body color dash houses a simple center chrome gauge pod that includes the ignition switch, an amps gauge, a cool round speedometer with an incorporated odometer and a fuel gauge for the cowl mounted fuel tank. Above the dash, the hardware for the tilt window is in great shape and the wiper motor is brand new. Below the dash a simple black shifter and vertical emergency brake spring up from a floor that is covered with a new black rubber mat. The driver’s side floor allows access to the frame mounted battery and features correct gloss black foot pedals. Door panels are simple and new with chrome window cranks, chrome locks and chrome door handles and new kick panels feature the same material. The correct, gloss black steering wheel lines up with a bench seat that is firm and covered in correct vinyl. And above the seat, the roof features light colored attractive wood cross braces under a new vinyl top.

Correctly detailed and restored to better than factory condition, this award winning 1930 Model A pickup was most likely a six digit build and is one of the finest 1930 Ford’s in the world. Thanks to its excellent appearance and exceptional finish, it stands out in a sea of overdone ’30 Ford hot rods and tired conservatively painted Model As. You couldn’t build a nicer Model A yourself, and if you paid someone to try, they’d probably charge you two or three times the asking price of this awesome little pickup. Call now!
