When building a top-notch show stopper you have to start with an excellent foundation; and in the world of modern street rodding, it doesn’t get much better than Wescott’s Auto. Any experienced builder will tell you Wescott’s steel reinforced, fully cross braced and hand laminated fiberglass creates a tight and reliable custom that, unlike most of its competitors, retains ALL its original lines, functional parts and structural integrity. And this ’32 Ford coupe, which was massaged, tweaked and assembled by Gary Vahling of Masterpiece Rodding in Denver, Colorado, looks absolutely fantastic under a rich coat of PPG Dark Cherry Metallic paint. The car’s stunning body displays smooth vertical panels and an arrow straight profile that would give an all-steel car a serious run for its money. And everything from its chopped and filled roof to its hidden hinges and filled rear valence has been painstakingly engineered into one super solid, completely pre-assembled fuselage. Naturally a body this nice deserves to be seen and celebrated to the highest extent, so its Dark Cherry basecoat was accented with intense flames, detailed with bright pin stripes and sealed in a glossy clearcoat shell. And today, with only sunny summer miles on its fully-sorted build, this awesome three-window sits as an excellent combination of classic old school style and proven trophy winning prowess!

Everything on this slick ’32 Ford is exceptionally well-done, and the car has just the right amount of detail to turn heads and create a lasting impression. Up front, body-matched frame horns hold a Dark Cherry Metallic spreader bar below a nostalgic Moon Equipment fluid tank, a spotless stainless grille and two chrome headlights. At the top of the car, a louvered steel hood runs to a chopped tilt windshield which is bordered by a show quality chrome frame, bright stainless wipers, small chrome mirrors and smoked greenhouse glass. At the sides of the car, a characteristically clean and simple profile presents shaved door handles, hidden door hinges and uninterrupted flame work. And out back, an electric rear window hangs over a flush LED center high mount stop lamp, cool ’37 Ford tail lights and a polished Halibrand quick change rear end which perfectly complements polished and color-keyed coil over shocks. There’s no mistaking a badass Ford coupe, and this one has an identity all its own thanks to a cohesive theme, careful workmanship and exceptional attention to detail.

For the benefit of both reliability and performance, traditional street rods often feature souped-up versions of proven powertrains; and the 350 cubic inch small block V8 under this Ford’s locking steel hood provides ample power and excellent drivability. At the top of the engine, a pair of chrome Carter AFB Competition carburetors integrate oxygen from polished air cleaners, which are complete with small re-usable filter elements, into a steady stream of fuel which travels through a chrome mechanical pump, high quality braided hoses, familiar Earl’s fittings and an Auto Gage pressure gauge. At the base of those carburetors, a polished 6-71 supercharger rides between Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, a hydraulic blower grind cam and an MSD billet distributor. At the top of those heads, polished Chevrolet branded valve covers are capped by chrome Moon Equipment breathers. At the sides of those valve covers, polished wire looms systematically route red MSD Super Conductor plug wires to all eight of the engine’s cylinders. And at the base of those plug wires, a pair of modified Sanderson ceramic coated long tube headers send spent cases into a great sounding true dual exhaust system. At the front of the engine, polished pulleys spin a chrome alternator behind chrome corrugated hoses, a large electric puller fan and a heavy duty radiator. And at the back of the engine, a Wescott’s recessed firewall hides a hot MSD Blaster SS ignition coil. In accordance with its fully detailed exterior panels, nothing was missed under the hood of this sharp ’32 Ford; and the car’s smooth and clean engine compartment is completely detailed from its polished stainless brace bars all the way to its slick chrome mini starter.

Under this Ford’s well-planned and professionally executed powerplant you’ll find a whole catalogue of custom performance parts which mix great aesthetics with excellent driving dynamics. A chrome dropped I-beam solid front axle, which is complete with chrome hair pins, combines with a custom triangulated four link rear suspension, which features polished and color-keyed coil over shocks, to produce thoroughly modern ride and handling characteristics. At the center of that first-rate suspension, a Roadster Shop chassis hangs a fresh Richmond 5-speed transmission in front of a polished Halibrand Champ quick change rear end that’s complete with tall 4.11 gears. And at the corners of that first-rate suspension, polished Halibrand Slot wheels roll 215/70/14 front and 285/70/15 rear BF Goodrich Radial T/As around polished Halibrand spinners. Quick stops are provided by a nice combination of Total Cost Involved front disc and rear drum brakes. Tight turns and easy parking come courtesy of a familiar Vega steering box. And a killer soundtrack is provided by a ceramic coated true dual exhaust system which can be routed through either Moon Equipment manual cut-outs or aggressive dual chamber mufflers and giant trumpeted exhaust tips. Exceptionally clean and completely detailed for show, the bottom of this coupe includes a slightly modified floorpan that was fashioned around the car’s buff drivetrain. And details such as a finned aluminum oil pan and a body-matched driveshaft add a whole lot of form to top-notch function.

Inside this awesome ’32 3-window ‘simple’ is the name of the game as a spectacular tan leather interior creates a fun and stylish contrast to the car’s deep red exterior panels. The pleated leather bench seat is firm, provides good support and features sturdy two-point seatbelts. At the sides of that seat, custom pleated panels, which are equipped with both electric windows and billet aluminum door handles, hang next to custom covered kick panels which conceal four small speakers. Below that seat, like-new carpet flows from the firewall to the back of the cockpit and props color-keyed and leather piped mats below a chrome emergency brake handle, a chrome fire extinguisher and a chrome Hurst Indy shifter that’s complete with a moon eye shift knob. And above that seat, a tweed headliner is stretched tightly from door to door and window to window. At the front of the car, a body-matched dash hangs a full set of Auto Meter Phantom gauges above stylish pin striping and an Alpine cassette player. At the back of the car, a completely upholstered trunk hides both the fuel tank and the battery between chrome hinges, a satin-finished fuel cap and a simple red cut-off switch. And in front of the driver, a polished Pete and Jake’s spoked steering wheel spins a “Ford” branded horn button around a polished Ididit tilt steering column and mirror-like chrome foot pedals.

Documentation and accessories included with the sale of this cool ’32 Ford consist of maintenance records from the previous owner, a copy of the car’s four page spread in the April 1998 edition of American Hot Rodder, a copy of the car’s photo in the July 1998 edition of American Hot Rodder, a car cover, a second set of keys, and a vintage 1932 Colorado license plate.
