When it comes to current automotive trends, nothing is hotter than the pro-touring movement. The blending of vintage style and modern performance creates an undeniable appeal that's literally changed the face of the marketplace. When that appeal is applied to a midyear Corvette, a car that's amassed a huge following, the end result is something enthusiasts will virtually line up to buy. And, in fact, the demand for those cars is so strong that some builds are claiming prices well beyond their OEM-restored siblings. With its blend of old school swagger and thoroughly modern underpinnings, this '65 Corvette follows the pro-touring formula perfectly. Mechanically, the car has been completely reworked to include a full SRIII Motorsports chassis, a hot small block, a tough Tremec 6-speed and a custom, Corvette-derived suspension. If you want a classic that utilizes the best of 21st century technology to create an unforgettable driving experience, take a number and check out this killer convertible!

Sealed in rich silver two-stage and topped with fresh burgundy cloth, this slick C2 is the beneficiary of a complete, ground-up restoration that occurred roughly 1,100 miles in the past. In addition to near-perfect alignment, the car's body features super sinuous aesthetics thanks to well-planned, custom accents. Those striking aesthetics have been professionally massaged into a collection of surfaces that's much nicer than anything that rolled out of the factory. And the result is a seductive, fully sorted roadster that presents as one of the finest classics in our 250 car showroom!

When you think of Corvettes, “classy” usually isn't the first thing that comes to mind. It's not that America's sports car lacks class. It simply floods the mind with far more appealing descriptors like fast, free and lust-worthy. After all, this C2 was built to lap tracks, not float through a stuffy regimen of tea-times. At the front of the car, bullet-style marker lights, a brilliant bumper and a prominent red, white and black cross-flag emblem cage a body-width, stainless-trimmed grille. At the sides of that grille, simple heat extractors ride between traditional door handles, colorful fender emblems, and polished and shielded side pipes. Opposite those pipes, a '67-exclusive Stinger hood leads the eye to like-new glass that's framed in fresh stainless trim, fade-free cloth and chrome bowtie mirrors. And behind those mirrors, standard, monochromatic tail lights illuminate a chrome-trimmed fuel filler, a clean “Corvette Sting Ray” emblem, a chrome-trimmed tag bracket and small, equally brilliant bumpers.

What good is all that 'show' if you can't back it up with a little 'go'? Lift this roadster's color-keyed hood and you'll find the forerunner to virtually all the technology still featured in Chevrolet sports cars: GM's potent Generation III LS1 small block. Utilizing aluminum construction, an Isky cam, flat top pistons and coil-near-plug ignition, that efficient mill produces a stout 400 horsepower. And despite consistently delivering track-blistering performance, it passes all emissions tests, drives like a commuter car and still pulls impressive fuel mileage on the highway! Aesthetically, GM's familiar fuel rail covers have been augmented with a precise mix of silver and burgundy two-stage. Under those covers, a Spectre air cone and polished tube feed a painted LS6 intake through an “LSX” branded throttle body. The engine's bland serpentine system has been exchanged for heavy duty KWiK Performance hardware that suspends a coated alternator opposite a coated AC compressor. There's a beefy aluminum radiator that's fitted with an efficient puller fan. Standard AC Delco plug wires combine with a Harrison reservoir and a polished Classic Performance Products brake booster to detail an otherwise purpose-built performer. And with one twist of the key, the engine zings to life, pulsing rhythmic notes through ceramic-coated Isky headers.

As our regular readers know, this is the paragraph that separates the pristine pro-tourers from the well-done resto-mods. And this Sting Ray's thoroughly updated underpinnings leave no doubt as to its affiliation with the former. SRIII Motorsports' sturdy tubular frame was a perfect foundation for the car's inspired resurrection. Behind the LS1, a fresh Tremec 6-speed twists a proven Dana 44 around big, 3.73 gears. That first class drivetrain rolls on a custom independent suspension that's fifth generation Corvette up front and reinforced multi-link out back. That curve-carving chassis stays glued to the road thanks to fresh QA1 coil-overs and modern power rack-and-pinion steering. Power-assisted stops are provided by two C5 calipers, two C4 calipers and four solid discs. Power flows through chrome C6 Grand Sport wheels, which spin 255/40ZR18 Nitto Invos in front of 325/30ZR19 Nitto Invos. And everything, from this Vette's stainless fuel tank to its clean silver floors, is expertly finished, superbly detailed and ready for action.

Inside this Chevy you'll find a svelte Al Knoch interior that's puts the high comfort in high style. Embroidered leather seats, donated from a fifth generation Corvette, feel firm to the touch and show virtually no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a painted and leather-wrapped dash hangs analog Dakota Digital gauges next to C6 Corvette cross-flags, Vintage Air climate control and a hideaway Custom Autosound system. Under that dash, stain-free carpet centers a booted shifter and traditional power windows inside a leather-wrapped console and textured floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, good looking door panels trace plush armrests with clean chrome handles and bright stainless trim. And in front of the driver, a billet steering wheel twists aggressive spokes around a tilting column and modern cruise control.

Logging just over 1,100 miles since the completion of its build, this Corvette is ready to be driven, shown and enjoyed in any way you see fit. With a stout, fuel-injected small block, modern Tremec transmission, impressive chassis and healthy list of modern amenities, the car is every bit as ready for track day as it is for a trip to the local Dairy Queen. If you've been eyeing the pro-touring movement patiently waiting for the right car, anticipate no longer!
