RKM Performance Center Seal of Approval

Every year, RK Motors Charlotte turns away hundreds of cars that don’t meet our standards. Why? Because we know the frustration that comes with buying a car that doesn't stack up. The collector car market is riddled with misrepresented and often downright fraudulent cars. To ensure that our customers receive only the best of what the market has to offer, we have established a screening process that we call the RKM Performance Center Seal of Approval. It consists of a comprehensive inspection performed by one of our ASE certified master mechanics before we even offer the car for sale.

If everything below passes, the car receives our Seal of Approval. With over 80 check points covered before the car enters our showroom, no other dealership can claim the same rigorous standards as RK Motors Charlotte.

While some of these items may seem simple, our years of industry experience have taught us that this kind of attention to detail is a rarity. The RKM Performance Center Seal of Approval is our way of assuring your buying experience is centered around transparency and peace of mind.

The exterior of a car provides considerable insight into its overall condition and quality – especially on a fully restored car. Straight body panels, even gaps, show-quality brightwork and rich blemish-free paint are often signs that a car has been built with a high standard in mind. That's why our team begins the Seal of Approval process by examining the exterior to make sure:

  • Paint is free of significant flaws such as large scratches, cracks or discoloration
  • Panel fitment is consistent with even gaps all around
  • Stainless trim is free of dents, scratches and chips
  • Chrome pieces are not pitted, dented or flaking
  • Glass is free of cracks, scratches and pitting
  • Wiper blades are not worn or dry rotted

If everything meets our standards visually, basic functionality is next on the list. Our team goes over all the standard exterior items to be sure:

  • Hood latches and hinges work properly (You’d be surprised by how many don’t.)
  • Door handles or actuators are functional
  • Windshield wipers and washers operate correctly
  • Convertible or removable tops are present and in working order
  • Trunk latches and hinges operate as they should

While a first rate exterior is huge part of a car's appeal, it doesn't mean a thing without power. From small blocks to big blocks, inline four cylinders to W10's, the RKM Performance Center knows engines inside and out. To make sure our customers get reliable performance, our Seal of Approval process covers all the basics to ensure:

  • The car starts and idles properly
  • All seals and gaskets are leak free
  • All fluid levels, from motor oil to coolant, are checked and topped off
  • The air conditioning is operational (if applicable)
  • All exhaust components are properly installed and functioning (Lots of “homemade” hangers out there)
  • The battery and charging system work to specifications

We know most of our customers like to drive their cars – not just off the trailer but out on the roads in every day conditions. In order to make sure the cars we sell offer a proper driving experience, our technicians go through every inch of the chassis to ensure reliability, safety and solid performance.

Our techs begin by performing a visual inspection to note items such as corrosion, loose fasteners or improperly routed lines. If everything appears sound, suspension and steering is up next. Again, the tech goes through the car to ensure:

  • All basic suspension components are installed correctly
  • Bushings show minimal wear
  • Grease fittings are lubricated
  • Power steering fluid is checked and topped off (if applicable)
  • Commonly loosened bolts/fittings are tightened
  • Steering does not pull
  • Steering wheel is centered
  • Brakes are functional with all components in good working order

Brakes are one of the best places to spend when building a high performance car. From vacuum drum brakes to huge power discs, we go through all of them to make sure they are fully operational, leak free and road ready. Wheels and tires are also inspected for damage or irregular wear of any kind.

With looks, power and performance out of the way, there is one final subject to our Seal of Approval process: the interior. It's where you'll spend the most time, so go the extra mile to make sure that time will be enjoyable and trouble free. Among other items, our interior checklist ensures:

  • The horn functions
  • Windows roll up and down
  • Seats that adjust properly and remain in place
  • Seat belts that are in good working order
  • Functional heater and defrosting system
  • Operational courtesy lights and hand controls (window cranks/switches, etc.)
  • Floor and trunk mats are in place
  • Spare tire, jack, hold down, lug wrench and inflator present (if applicable)
