23,901 Actual Mile Continental Town Car 460 V8
In the 70s luxury car market, the mantras 'bigger is better' and 'more is better' were alive and well. Cars from Cadillac, Lincoln and Chrysler were large, isolated, came equipped with massive torque rich motors and provided an extremely comfortable ride that was second only to a cruise ship. This 1976 Lincoln Continental Town Car is an all original survivor that has been immaculately maintained by one owner throughout its entire 23,938 mile life.
Manufactured in Wixom Michigan on June 6, 1976, this Continental has never seen snow and has never been stored outside. The car carries its original coat of rich Dark Red paint which remains in outstanding condition, displays a fresh shine and shows no ripples or defects. Under that paint, the cars body panels are straight and rust-free, suggesting that it has lead an easy life and panel gaps are still at factory standards.
At the front of the car, a narrow and tall stainless trimmed grille sits between folding headlights that function properly and display an excellent looking chrome “Lincoln Continental” emblem. Below the grille, a free standing chrome bumper is backed by a perfectly matched filler panel, features chrome guards, houses another stainless trimmed grille and is protected by black trim. At the sides of the headlights, stainless trimmed knife-edged fenders extend past the grille and house pristine chrome trimmed marker lights. At the front of the hood, a chrome Lincoln emblem is centered on the header panel, and at the rear of the hood clear and scratch free factory glass encloses the cars entire green house. Wrapped around the edges of that glass is straight factory quality stainless trim and sitting above that glass is a red textured vinyl roof that is in excellent condition with no signs of tearing or cracking. Just behind the front doors, the cars B-pillars feature perfectly functioning coach lamps, and behind the C-pillars you'll find classy Lincoln branded opera windows that are trimmed in stainless.
The sides of the car are decorated with many ornate and functional items that are all in great condition. The strong fender lines that begin at the front of the car are capped with show quality stainless trim that complements perfect looking stainless rocker moldings. Just below the chrome door handles, white tape stripes run from the front to the back of the car and have never been repaired or pieced together. Just behind the front bumper, clear cornering lights meet stainless wheel well trim and begin a visual line that is continued by optional red and stainless body side moldings. On the front doors, satin finished rear view mirrors complement stainless door edge moldings and small “Town Car” scripts mounted just behind the front tires. On the rear fenders, the cars original fender skirts sit below a chrome driver's side power antenna and chrome “Continental” scripts. At the rear of the car, knife-edged fenders house clear chrome trimmed brake lights and sit above another free standing chrome bumper that is complete with matching chrome guards and black trim. Between the tail lights, a decorative rear valence panel houses square reverse lights and sits below a Lincoln emblem that conceals the trunk lock cylinder, and a subtle passenger's side mounted chrome “Lincoln” emblem.
Providing the motivation for this nearly 5500 pounds of steel is a numbers matching Ford 385 Series 460 cubic inch beast which, in 1976, pushed out 202 horsepower and more than 350 ft./lb. of torque. Highly original, the engine bay features correct markings and is in excellent condition throughout. It's not concours by any means, but it is incredibly tidy and has been well maintained from day one. Corporate Ford Blue paint covers the engine and air cleaner which supplies air to a Motorcraft 4 barrel carburetor. All of the major service items are in 100% functional condition, including the factory A/C and the valve covers even maintain the cars original factory service decals. The satin black inner fenders are solid, the firewall is excellent, and all the other places you'd think rust would hide are instead clean and untouched. This Lincoln is every bit as road ready and powerful as it was back in 1976.
For 1976, the Town Car was equipped with Fords reliable and sturdy C6 3-speed automatic transmission that drove a set of 2.75 gears for effortless high-speed highway cruising. And trust me, you've never experienced highway cruising unless you've been in a car like this; they're ideally suited to long highway trips and cross country adventures. The undercarriage, like the engine bay, is clean and honest but not detailed for show and certainly not to the point where anyone should be afraid to put this car on the road. The cars brakes are fully functional, and the exhaust system is in good condition with no signs of rot. And talk about low mileage well-preserved cars, the tires on this Lincoln are the ORIGINAL 230-15 Michelin whitewalls that are mounted to 15-inch steel wheels with great looking Lincoln stamped and satin finished Town Car hubcaps!
This car's interior is as luxury oriented as any automaker could manage in 1976. That means leather seats, thick carpets, and what the Ford build record refers to as 'power equipment' which includes power seats, power windows, power door locks and a remote right hand mirror. The red seats are in excellent, unblemished condition showing little to no wear at all, and the rear seats even includes a cool folding center armrest that disappears into the seatback. Below the seats, shag style carpet has held its red color very well and brings back fond memories of the seventies. In front of the driver, a very ornate red dash is in excellent condition with no cracks or fading and holds an optional Multiplex AM/FM radio and a cool electro-mechanical clock. The tilt steering wheel is decorated with wood applique and features buttons for the cars cruise control. And at the sides of the seats, padded door panels feature large armrests and pull handles and are decorated with wood and silver trim. Above the seats, a black headliner is anchored by a chrome dome light and appears as fresh and tight as the day it rolled out of the showroom. It really is amazing how well this interior has been preserved; all plastics are in excellent, un-cracked condition and the wood appliques and silver trim throughout is sharp and lustrous with no sun damage. The well-preserved trunk features the original mat in excellent condition and what may very well be the car's original spare tire.
Documentation for this car includes an original build record from Ford and the cars original owner's manual.
