Ford-Powered Streetrod Pickup 351 V8 Automatic A/C Custom Int.
In a world where smooth fiberglass street rods are a fact of life, finding a unique and authentic cruiser can be challenging. Some builds are dated and need to be modernized, while others are so thoroughly modern they'll be dated by next year. One of the best bets you can place is on a timeless creation like this impressive Ford pickup. It's a fully sorted masterpiece that was carefully planned and bolted together by someone who definitely knew their way around a garage. The parts list includes familiar items like a cammed V8, a smooth shifting 4-speed, princely paint and a thoroughly tweaked interior; but it's the execution of those items that sets the truck apart. Searching for a super cool hot rod that can be driven and shown with pride? This impressive Ford is the perfect solution!
FORD TOUGH, STREET ROD BUFF
This hot pickup's smooth and solid body began life as a run-of-the-mill workhorse that was maintained, driven and paraded for most of its existence. During a detailed, frame-off restoration, that old school metal was stripped, sanded, married to fiberglass rear fenders and layered in crisp silver two-stage. And that brilliant metallic pigment was complemented with a fresh wood bed, stainless skid strips and subtle black pin striping. At the front of those marks, a guarded bumper reflects a tall stainless grille between a fancy “V8” radiator topper and polished, dual-mode headlights. A steel hood points factory louvers at timeless “Ford V8” badging. A tilting windshield fronts an unchopped cab between factory mirrors, a sealed cowl and factory door handles. A “Ford” branded tailgate provides easy access to a billet fuel filler. And polished LED taillights shade a second polished bumper.
POWER BY FORD
Check the truck's body-matched engine bay and you'll find 351 cubic inches of proven Ford V8 that's fully sorted and ready to roar! At the top of that storied mill, a polished air cleaner balances a hot rod wingnut on a 600cfm Quick Fuel 4-barrel that's sequenced between a Lokar throttle cable and an electronic choke. A lightweight aluminum intake feeds reliable Ford internals that have been supplemented with a mild cam. Fires get lit by a hot MSD Pro-Billet distributor, which bounces spark between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and loomed Taylor Spiro Pro plug wires. Polished pulleys spin a polished alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. Coated Hedman block huggers make quick work of spent gases. Cooling comes courtesy of a big aluminum radiator, which is paired with a large electric puller fan. And choice detailing includes corrugated hoses, billet fluid reservoirs and tasteful Ford Racing valve covers.
ENJOY THE DRIVE
Every good street rod has a solid foundation. Flip this Ford upside down and you'll find a roster of mechanical improvements that mix classic looks with modern mobility. A beefy Ford AOD automatic transmission spins power to a 9-inch Currie axle. That tough drivetrain rides a boxed and braced chassis, which mixes a Total Cost Involved Mustang II-style front-half with a 4-link rear-clip. Power rack-and-pinion steering is a welcome addition, and power-assisted discs are a big performance upgrade. Large-diameter exhaust roars through rowdy Flowmaster FlowFX mufflers. Ample 'go juice' is provided by a fabricated fuel tank. And everything rolls on American Racing Bullitt-style blades, which spin 215/60R17 BF Goodrich Advantage T/As.
CASUALLY COOL
Decked in black leather, this pickup's classy custom cockpit is a great place to see the sights! Front and center, a pin striped dash hangs tasteful Classic Instruments telemetry next to modern Vintage Air climate control. A broad bench seat frames a convenient cupholder on a sea of fade-free carpet that's fashioned around polished foot pedals. Attractive door skins are dotted with billet handles. The driver spins a polished and leather-wrapped steering wheel around a polished and tilting column. Modern Cruise Control is a welcome luxury. And a hidden SecretAudio head unit provides the soundtrack.
'30s Fords have aged with more grace than most, wearing a design that's still capable of turning heads in its basic factory form. The restorer's decision to leave those basics alone and make only time-tested adjustments is a huge part of why this truck works so well. With its spry motor, smooth-shifting 4-speed, comfortable interior and vintage swagger, you'll never tire of finding this custom in your garage. Stop watching opportunity pass you by.
