That begs the question: how do you get breakneck performance that's wrapped in a jaw-dropping shell without draining your kid's college fund? Well, you take a serious look at a gem like this fantastic Backdraft Racing Cobra! A modern spin on a timeless sports car, this rad roadster mixes 427 cubic inches of Iconic V8 with a tough Tremec 5-speed, BMW suspension components and jaw-dropping aesthetics. If you're in the market for a storied classic that's destined to lead the pack, you've found your pride and joy!
BLAZE GLAZE
From inception, Backdraft cars are turnkey products developed and engineered to mimic the vintage appeal of authentic aluminum Cobras while handily out-performing pretty much anything on the street. The assembly of this roadster's professionally finished body began with a steel-lined GRP molding that was hand-tweaked and gel coated on a full-size rotisserie rack. Once that coating was complete, the newly formed fuselage was smoothed by a seasoned fiberglass professional, baked in an even coat of primer and inspected top-to-bottom to ensure first-class quality. When quality control was cleared, bold Blaze Metallic Orange two-stage was detailed with warm Pewter racing stripes and polished to a head-turning shine. And today, this super slick Cobra is a sophisticated build that exhibits twice the style and twice the race-bred DNA of a typical replicar boulevard cruiser.
Assembled in December of 2018 as a 2019 roadster, this Cobra is a carefully detailed stunner that's logged just over 900 miles. That detailing begins with a sculpted and re-angled nose, which hangs stainless-trimmed Hella headlights over mesh grilles, amber parking lamps and polished quick lifts. A rivet-lined hood anchors a small scoop in front of locking latches and polished stainless wipers. Behind those wipers, like-new glass hangs clear wind wings and dark-tint visors between a polished roll bar and a polished, bullet-style mirror. At the sides of the car, shielded pipes frame finned air extractors, stylish Ford emblems and a familiar Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car, stacked tail lamps join a chrome tag light to illuminate a locking trunk handle and two more polished quick lifts.
ICONIC ICON
Professionally assembled and fully detailed, this Cobra's Windsor-based Iconic 427 twists an easy 475 horsepower into an impressive 506 lb./ft. of track terrorizing torque! At the top of that trusty Dart 351W block, a billet air cleaner punches wind through a coated Holley 4-barrel that's teamed with stainless lines an electric choke and a coated Edelbrock fuel pump. A resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a polished Edelbrock Performer RPM intake to hot Edelbrock E-Street heads, which hide fluid roller rockers under polished Ford Racing valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, an internally balanced Eagle rotating assembly joins a choice COMP cam to build buff 10.5 to 1 compression. That compression gets sparked by a reliable MSD Pro-Billet distributor, which is sequenced between an MSD Blaster SS coil and loomed Ford Racing plug wires. Spent gases roar through coated headers. A lightweight aluminum radiator joins a big puller fan, a polished water tube and a chromed expansion tank to provide the brutal engine's cooling. Billet serpentine components spin a coated Edelbrock water pump next to a polished Powermaster alternator. And overall, the car's impressive engine bay is exceptionally well done, featuring details like a polished dipstick, a spry Powermaster starter, a polished Ford Racing breather and a Moroso deep-sump oil pan.
BACKDRAFT BUILT
Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot powerplant, a proven Tremec 5-speed, tailored with a Quick Time bellhousing, spins a BMW limited-slip rear end that ensures whiplash-inducing acceleration while still allowing the car to loaf along at highway speeds. That drivetrain, bolted to a hot-rolled rectangular steel ladder-type chassis, sends power through the same BMW-sourced MacPherson strut front and fully independent rear suspension that's become a Backdraft hallmark. Turns come courtesy of BMW-sourced rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by power-assisted discs at all four corners that, thanks to this car's featherweight construction, are virtually impervious to fade. And there's simply nothing that looks better on a Cobra than a set of Halibrand-style Knock-Offs!
INTERIOR
Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as diamond-stitched leather and fresh carpet culminate in a simple yet attractive driving environment. Front and center, deep buckets pin soft pleats under 4-point Sabelt safety harnesses. Looking forward, a leather-clad dash hangs sedate Backdraft Racing telemetry above pushbutton ignition and slim Backdraft Racing pedals. Below that dash, an angled Backdraft Racing shifter pivots between a polished hand brake and plush Backdraft Racing floor mats. And the driver carves curves through a polished a wood-rimmed steering wheel.
There simply aren't that many chances to own a first class sport car – especially at this money. With its modern chassis, proven 5-speed and exceptional Iconic power, this Cobra is guaranteed to be a blast to drive. Looking to add a little fire to your arsenal?
