As a top retailer of customs, specialties and historical artifacts, RK Motors Charlotte makes it easy for you to find cool versions of a variety of collector cars. With that in mind, we're also the outfit that strives to bring our clients unique and well-done offerings that are approachable and easily streetable. On that note, our latest lights-out classic is this sweet 1954 F100 resto-mod: a timeless hot rod that, thanks to its Fat Man chassis, modern air conditioning and proven LS1/4-speed drivetrain, cruises the blacktop like a champ!
STARING AT SPACE
The beneficiary of a detailed, ground-up restoration that was completed by its current owner, this super cool pickup combines the standout attributes of old school Ford steel with choice customization that's so well integrated you'd swear it rolled right off the assembly line. The truck's straight fuselage mirrors a sophisticated coat of BMW Space Gray Metallic 2-stage. And those excellent reflections trace Kansas-flat surfaces to suggest many labor-intensive hours were spent exacting top-notch finish work.
At the front of this Ford, a '56 F100 grille hangs stainless-trimmed '56 F100 headlights above clear parking lamps and a 1956 Chevrolet bumper that's been flipped, filled, tucked and powder-coated. Above that grille, a shaved, forward-tilting hood leads a custom, electronic cowl vent that's centered between Specialty Power Windows cable-drive wipers. Those wipers clear a tinted greenhouse that's been supplemented with a '56 F100 Big Window. At the sides of that glass, trick mirrors join polished handles to parallel widened running boards, which lead the eye to a 3-inch widened bed. That bed, centered between factory fenders, features a quick-fill fuel filler, rails for tying down motorcycles and stainless-trimmed White Oak planks that are stained with Ebony dye and sealed in Marine-grade clear. And at the back of those fenders, a widened tailgate centers a requisite “FORD” banner between a custom tag mount, LED taillights and a second 1956 Chevrolet bumper that's been flipped, filled, tucked and powder-coated.
LS1: IT'S NOT JUST FOR CHEVIES
Behind the truck's rotating hood latch and custom, centered hood prop, a spry Gen III LS1 combines a sturdy aluminum block with lightweight aluminum heads and aluminum flat-top pistons to twist 326 dyno-proven horses into 350 lb./ft. of dyno-proven torque. At the front of the engine, a polished air tube feeds a factory-spec throttle body, which is bolted to a lightweight, composite intake. High octane fossils are provided by GM electronic fuel injection. Sparks are sequenced through MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a lightweight aluminum radiator, which fronts a big electric puller fan. Spent gases get whisked away by cast iron Hooker headers, which look great in Jet-Hot ceramic. And, aesthetically, the Cast Silver mill, capped with vivid C5 Z06 rail covers, blends seamlessly with a clean, body-matched engine bay that's finished with trick reservoirs and a quality Optima battery.
READY TO ROLL
That modern powerplant has, along with the truck's modern 4L60E 4-speed, been tuned for a maximum combination of performance and efficiency. The performance aspect of that equation is greatly helped by a 9-inch Ford axle that's fitted with big, 3.73 gears. Everything rolls on a $13K Fat Man Fabrications chassis, which dresses an independent front and 4-link rear suspension in slick QA-1 coil-over-shocks. Power rack-and-pinion steering makes parking easy and turns a cinch. Four power-assisted calipers clamp four drilled and slotted rotors to provide quick stops. Stainless, true-dual exhaust stretches an X-shaped crossover in front of electric cutouts, Magnaflow mufflers and polished, center-outlet tips. Power meets the pavement through polished American Racing Torq Thrust IIs, which twist authentic vintage knock-offs inside 235/55R17 Michelin Latitudes and 275/55R17 Michelin Latitudes. And quality details include braided fluid lines, a Driveshaft Specialist of Texas driveshaft and a stainless Tanks Inc. fuel tank.
NOTHING BEATS CUSTOM!
Swivel the doors and you'll reveal $5K worth of tasteful custom cockpit that was installed by Auto Interiors and Tops of Raleigh, North Carolina. Plush red leather covers a custom bench seat that's been both sectioned and narrowed. In front of that seat, a customized dash hangs crisp Dakota Digital VHX telemetry beside Vintage Air conditioning, a custom cupholder and modern Kenwood audio. Clean carpet frames a retro Lokar shifter between a simple Lokar hand brake and monochromatic Lokar pedals. Quality Ron Francis wiring backs retrofitted power windows. And in front of the driver, a hot rod steering wheel laps a modern, tilting column.
Easy to cruise and fun to look at, this awesome Ford should make every enthusiast smile. It backs modern performance with a solid restoration that's ready to blister the blacktop and stop the show! Call your friends at RK Motors Charlotte for more information.
