CSX6000 Series Shelby Cobra 427ci Side Oiler V8 532hp 5-speed IRS
If you're like most gearheads, you know all about the days when Carroll Shelby modified dainty roadsters into monstrous sports cars that made a habit of carving up tracks. That said, as time progresses, technology progresses. And a product that once existed as an innovative hot rod from a legendary racer has now birthed a hyper-competitive, multi-million-dollar replica market. Today, it takes a serious plan and highly skilled craftsmanship to even think about sourcing or restoring a world-class Cobra. And when it comes to world-class, it doesn't get much better than this killer Shelby CSX6000. Commissioned by Shelby American of Las Vegas, Nevada, this timeless beast combines storied heritage with killer looks, excellent build quality and unbeatable provenance. And what's better: with names like Ford and Tremec on its specs sheet, this professionally-assembled sports car will outperform, and outlast, just about any classic on the road!
CSX6363 OR 1963/1963
In 1965, amid stiff competition and whimsical homologation rules, Shelby attempted a total domination of the FIA GT series by installing a massive Ford 427 in a completely re-engineered AC chassis. While this creation was a bit crude at the time, it possessed all the organically frightening charm of a bare-knuckle collector car. And, even though initial public sales were a bit of a letdown, authentic 427 S/C's would eventually bring millions at auction. Today, roughly 55 years later, big block Cobras are some of the most valuable cars ever produced. And since the mid-1980s, Las Vegas's Shelby American has continued to honor the icon by authorizing lightly updated generations dubbed CSX4000 and CSX6000.
Professionally assembled in late 2011, CSX6363 is a fully sorted gem that was assigned its unique identification number because the folks who purchased it were both born in 1963. The car's lightweight fiberglass body is dressed in glossy Navy Blue 2-stage that looks particularly striking rolling through the summer sunshine. That pigment reflects necessities like polished latches, satin quick lifts, stainless-trimmed lighting and a polished roll bar. And those necessities are flanked by niceties like Cobra wind wings, a polished fuel filler, tinted visors and stainless-trimmed glass that's cleared by polished wipers.
427 OR 452
Without a doubt, Shelby CSX cars as close to 1965 S/Cs as collectors can get. And nowhere is that more evident than under this roadster's hood, where you'll find 452 cubic inches of side-oiler 427 that spins 532 dyno-proven horsepower into 536 lb./ft. of dyno-proven torque. At the top of that vintage mill, polished air cleaners feed dual Holley 660 4-barrels that are married to a dual-plane Blue Thunder intake. That intake is runner-matched to aluminum Edelbrock heads, which hide Keith Craft Stage II port work under Precision Oil Pumps rods, Precision Oil Pumps rollers, Cobra Le Mans covers and stainless breathers. Beneath those heads, a tough Eagle crank spins Eagle H-beam rods and quality RaceTec pistons around a custom-grind COMP hydraulic roller cam that, like the intake, has been matched to the aforementioned heads. At the front of that cam, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences spark through loomed Moroso Mag-Tune plug wires. Custom Red Shark Engineering exhaust follows stainless, ceramic-coated headers with familiar, ceramic-coated side-pipes. A Ford OEM expansion tank floods clean water tubes, which are paired to a beefy aluminum radiator that fronts a large puller fan. Everything stays slick thanks to a wet-sump oil system and a 10-quart Aviaid pan. And you'll be happy to know that the clean V8 has been properly seated in a clean aluminum bay.
MODERN ROOTS
One of the best things about buying a professionally built, Shelby-designed Cobra is the impressive hardware underneath. Fully sorted and completely detailed, this sub-2,400-pound roadster's 4-inch tube frame and fully independent suspension are ready to hit the toughest track you can find! The buff 427 funnels power to a Tremec TKO600 5-speed, which aligns an 11-inch Ford flywheel with a QuickTime bellhousing and an 11-inch hydraulic clutch. That transmission twists a custom driveshaft, which spins a Salisbury-style rear-clip that, according to the car's current owner, is finished with sporty, 3.31 gears. At the corners, taut Penske coil-overs dampen vented discs, which are clamped by Shelby dual-piston calipers. Modern rack-and-pinion steering makes low speed parking almost as easy as high-speed sweeps. And power meets the pavement via Trigo Pin Drive Wheels, which spin 245/60R15 Avons in front of 295/50R15 Avons.
VINTAGE CLASS
Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as supple leather and fresh carpet culminate in a simple yet attractive driving environment. Front and center, deep bucket seats pin soft pleats under 2-point safety harnesses. Looking forward, a leather-wrapped dash props a polished mirror on sedate Shelby American telemetry and a locking glovebox. Below that dash, an angled shifter pivots next to a polished hand brake. And in front of the driver, a classy wood steering wheel spins polished spokes around a Cobra-branded emblem.
Fully sorted and ready to turn your dreams into reality, this awesome Shelby embodies the unique combination of performance and style every car builder dreams about. From its timeless curves to its classy cockpit, there simply aren't many nicer Cobras out there. If you're looking for a striking show queen that's an absolute blast to drive, come claim this impressive CSX6000!
