----------
If you're accustomed to old school muscle, you're probably wondering what's so special about this vivid Mitsubishi. Well, for starters, it's a super rare, American-exclusive drop-top that's one of only 1,481 3000GT Spyders produced. It's a 1-owner car that's logged only 16,691 miles. And, thanks to the added style and weight of its factory hardtop, it's a leisurely cruiser that's balanced and fun to drive. So, if you're looking for a cool car that's not only pristine but original, and not only original but unique, here's a GTO of a different origin!
BODY
The car's dent-free profile displays all the aggressive contours you'd expect from a sporty Mitsubishi, becoming a slam-dunk head-turner with the addition of Passion Red 2-stage. That appeal is heightened by a retractable hardtop, one of the first introduced to the American market, which allows sun-filled sprints without the hassle of aging cloth and a drafty interior. Those sprints have been few and far between; as the car shows very few signs of wear, with a freshened nose clip leading a clean body that's devoid of major road rash. And, as far as we can tell, there are absolutely no signs of accident damage or botched repair jobs.
DRIVETRAIN
Lift the sculpted hood and you'll find a 3.0 liter, dual overhead cam V6 that spins a smooth 222 horsepower into 204 lb./ft. of utilitarian torque. The low-mileage engine is bolted to a 4-speed automatic transmission that couples firm shifts to good fuel economy. That relaxed drivetrain spins the car's front wheels using a sophisticated suspension that, thanks to the addition of the hardtop, nearly achieves perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Vented disc brakes live at all four corners. Everything rolls on stylish blades, which have been shod in 245/45R17 Fuzion UHPs. And an original exhaust system delivers a raspy snarl that's extremely sporting, especially from outside the cockpit.
INTERIOR
This 3000GT's jet-inspired cockpit, which presents a striking contrast to its extroverted exterior, displays hardly any signs of wear. The power-adjustable driver's seat keeps you as comfortable for quick jaunts as it does for long road trips; and the passenger and rear buckets show very little aging. In front of those seats, a monochromatic dash hangs orange-lit instrumentation above factory climate control and an old school Infinity tape deck. At the base of that dash, a crack-free console props a black shifter on clean carpet. And in front of the driver, a simple steering wheel features factory cruise control and redundant audio buttons.
Recent sales suggest Japanese sports cars are starting to really gain traction in the collector car market. In addition to providing an awesome driving experience, they were the dream cars of a whole generation of potential buyers. If you're looking for a cool classic that also happens to be a rather unique survivor, this rare Mitsu will not disappoint!
