Description

Classic cars are all about passion. Some of the nicest classics we feature are those built by folks who invest a large amount of time and money into a project they simply love. And much to the surprise of casual onlookers, most gearhead's dream builds don't always involve Ridler finalists or a prestigious pile of name brand parts that serves as garage floor décor. Instead they're filled with impressive, well-done cruisers which wrap modern power, everyday livability and top-notch road manners in about five times the curb appeal of the local showroom special. This award-winning Chevy was painstakingly crafted into a first class piece of automotive art during a professional, high dollar restoration. And thanks to a reliable small block and virtually indestructible transmission, it also sports a fully-sorted drivetrain that creates the perfect platform for cross-country road trips. Looking for a hot tri-five that's every bit as cool and twice as classy as a ground-up street rod? This 210 is an amazing car at an excellent price!

The essential part of building a jaw dropping custom is knowing EXACTLY when to hold back. And, with an icon like the Chevy tri-five, even the most subtle touches go a long way. While the pros at Blaine Minnesota's Unique Body & Paint gave this sedan's body plenty of attention, that work was specifically aimed at creating the most perfect surfaces possible. And the result is panels that are amazingly flat, displaying nary a ripple or wave anywhere. As expected, those straight panels ensure fit and finish that's significantly above '50s factory fodder. And a glossy coat of PPG Viper Red two-stage lends the car a sporty demeanor that most pastels simply can't touch.

The '55 model is certainly the cleanest of the tri-five Chevys, with its minimal trim and crisp, retro styling devoid of the massive chrome and exaggerated proportions that typically characterize '50s era steel. At the front of this classic, a trademark bumper rides below a pristine grille, clear parking lamps and modern tri-bar headlights. At the top of that grille, a factory-fresh Chevrolet crest is centered below a classy 'jetbird' hood ornament. At the back of that hood, lightly tinted glass rides inside stainless frames, electric Rain Gear wipers and a bright chrome mirror. At the base of that glass, a “Chevrolet” branded profile is accented by factory-optioned trim spears and traditional GM door handles. And at the back of that profile, snazzy bowtie tail lights illuminate a second Chevrolet crest, a second chrome bumper and polished exhaust turndowns.

By now it's probably pretty obvious this 210 was built to be seen. But, thanks to the 383 cubic inch stroker under its hood, that might be easier said than done! The car's stunning amalgamation of chrome and Viper Red power revs under a coated Edelbrock carburetor that's sandwiched between a chrome air cleaner, Lokar linkage hardware and a coated Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. At the perimeter of that intake, cast iron heads hang chrome valve covers over chrome wire looms while a modern Mallory distributor shoots spark through red Taylor cables. Below those cables, ceramic coated Hookers take care of spent gases while body-matched pulleys spin a polished alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. And in front of that compressor, a beefy aluminum radiator circulates clean coolant via chrome, corrugated hoses. Despite being a thoroughly modern piece, the hot small block looks right at home in this Chevy's glossy engine compartment. And details like a polished brake booster, braided fluid lines, trick dipsticks and a coated Edelbrock fuel pump create a nice, finished appearance.

Like its clean engine bay and classy exterior panels, the bottom of this road ready sedan continues the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced technology. Predictably, the smooth small block transfers power to a reliable 700R4 4-speed that's kitted with a 2,500 RPM stall converter. That tweaked transmission torques a Currie-supplied 9-inch, which spins 31-spline axles around stout, 3.50 gears. Turns come courtesy of modern power steering, which utilizes body-matched hardware to create quick reflexes and excellent maneuverability. Stops are provided by power-assisted disc brakes, which clamp Viper Red, GM-style calipers around solid rotors. A custom, mandrel-bent exhaust system swirls spent gases through polished pipes and polished Edelbrock 304 mufflers. The car's boxed chassis and Viper Red floorpan complement a fully rebuilt suspension that's fitted with 2-inch drop spindles, 2-inch drop springs and polished traction bars. All that reliable hardware rides on a sweet set of chrome Coys wheels, which spin 225/45ZR17 Nexen N3000s in front of 255/45ZR18 Nexen N3000s. And fully sorted details like a stainless fuel tank and stainless fluid lines ensure years of carefree cruising.

Inside this Chevy, traditional '50s style is augmented with first class leather installed by Pro-Stitch Upholstery of Springville, Iowa. The car's broad bench seats are all-day comfortable, featuring supple hides that display no significant wrinkles. In front of those seats, a Viper Red dash hangs textured billet trim behind Auto Meter gauges, a modern Kenwood CD player and hardware for a Hot Rod Air climate system. Overhead, there's a pliable leather headliner that flows in to a leather-wrapped package tray. On the floors, premium carpet rides under billet foot pedals and color-keyed floor mats. In front of the driver, a polished and half-wrapped steering wheel spins around a tilting Ididit column. At the sides of the passengers, custom door panels look great behind billet handles and chrome-trimmed armrests. And behind the cockpit, a billet Center High Mount Stop Lamp rides over a fully carpeted trunk.

The sale of this stunning tri-five includes a small stack of component manuals.

Cars like this awesome 210 are very special, and they represent incredible value to buyers. With a high quality restoration that's beyond reproach and a custom color combination that creates a riot at shows, THIS is the kind of build you simply can't touch for our asking price. Just imagine heading out in this old school classic on a warm summer evening; the burble of the 383 as your chorus, the smooth open road as your canvas, and nothing between your mind and miles of happiness!
